POSITION TITLE: Family Nurse Practitioner
DEPT/LOCATION: Express Family Clinic

MEDICAL DIRECTOR: Arthur Lim, MD, JD
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is the Head of the Clinic. The position supervises all staff and students, managing the day-to-day operations to facilitate patient management and clinic flow. The position provides medical supervision for all medical personnel at the clinic in a fast-paced clinic atmosphere.
Provides comprehensive medical services for children and adults, regardless of age or sex within scope of training. Services include: include managing a patient’s overall care; prescribing medications and treatments; ordering, conducting and interpreting diagnostic tests, such as x-rays, EKGs and lab work; diagnosing and treating chronic and acute conditions, including injuries, infections, depression/anxiety, diabetes and high blood pressure; performing invasive procedures; counseling; and educating patients on positive health-promoting lifestyle choices and disease, injury and illness prevention. The mission of Express Family Clinic is to provide health care services to underserved and uninsured persons in Montgomery County and the surrounding areas.
May be asked to provide training to student nurse practitioners to serve in the preceptor role.
This position requires the provider to be on site to see all patients during the clinic’s regular business hours, so that a patient’s care is continuous. No weekends or holidays.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- BSN
- MSN – Family Nurse Practitioner
- AANP or ANCC Family Nurse Practitioner Certification
Experience: (Required)
- Within scope of training
- Familiar with Electronic Health Records (EHR)
- Basic computer skills
Licensure/Certification: as appropriate
- TX Nursing License, DEA Certificate
- FNP Certification
- BLS certified
- Employees are responsible for maintaining individual certifications as required by job function or by law and provide verification and recertification when requested by management.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Personal-Team-Organization
- Provides medical supervision for all medical professional staff at the Clinic.
- Supervises all staff at the Clinic
- Reviews patient file/record, including allergies, problems, medications and immunization status.
- Elicits and records information about patient’s medical history.
- Examines patients for symptoms or physical information. If patient is first seen by a student nurse practitioner, Provider will see patient and concur with treatment and review plan with patient upon discharge.
- Orders or executes various tests, analyses and diagnostic images to provide information on patient’s condition.
- Analyzes reports and findings of tests and examination and diagnoses condition of patient.
- Administers or prescribes treatments.
- Determines and prescribes medication, dosage and schedule given the patient’s condition and allergies.
- Discusses any possible side effects to medication or immunization with patient.
- Prescribes vaccinations to immunize patient from communicable diseases.
- Promotes health by advising patients about diet, hygiene and methods for prevention of disease.
- Performs surgical procedures commensurate with surgical competency.
- Refers patients to medical specialist for consultant services when necessary for patient’s well-being.
- Documents the patient’s visit including medical history, physical exam, diagnoses and plan of action.
- Follows up with patient regarding progress in high risk or emergency cases.
- Conducts physical examinations to provide information needed for admission to school, consideration for jobs, or eligibility for insurance coverage.

- Providers schedule: works Monday-Friday beginning at 9am and until all patients have been discharged; may be required to cover alternate locations

Language Skills

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportion to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram from and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Provide prompt and effective leadership for the clinic staff.
