What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Assistant position at ExpressMed, LLC?
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
· Answer the telephone – take accurate messages (name, company phone #, time, purpose of call & when the best time to return the call) with appropriate problem solving.
· Patient scheduling – be available, as necessary, to answer phones to make patient appointments via the scheduling functions of the EMR system.
· Patient registration – provide assistance as necessary to the administrative assistant with the preparation of patient charts, patient sign in, etc.
· Medical Assistant must work front desk as well as clinically.
· Check that appropriate tests and forms that are ordered, completed and reports are available at recheck. All tests must be reviewed by a medical provider before they are filed.
· Complete daily opening and closing tasks.
· Understand and be able to access computerized information about patients, insurance, injuries, and companies.
· After patient leaves, complete paper work and test results and place file in appropriate area.
· Remove reports from fax and match to appropriate paperwork.
· Help with chart filing.
· When chart is complete, fax or mail appropriate material so it will be sent out according to specifications.
· Daily office and bathroom cleaning tasks to keep the offices, waiting room, exam rooms and bathroom clean at all times. Regular cleaning of exam tables, supply cabinets and counters.
CLINICAL PROCEDURES: ALWAYS FOLLOW UNIVERSAL PRECAUTIONS
· Accompany patient to appropriate room/area for testing or exam as ordered.
· For all medical appointments (initial but not follow-up workers compensation injuries) check
height and weight.
· For all medical appointments check vital signs. Temperature measurements for all urgent care patients, and for worker’s compensation, those with a question of a fever or infection.
· For all PE’s, IME’s, DOT’s and eye injuries check vision on wall chart. Check form to see if near vision or peripheral vision is required. Prepare patient for appropriate exam and make sure that the clinician is aware that a patient is ready.
· Perform eye and ear irrigations, dress/bandage wounds and incisions, apply splints.
· Drug testing – verify that the correct test is ordered and that paper work corresponds, sign & check I.D.
· Follow current DOT guidelines for all testing procedures, instruct patient how to obtain specimen and perform test.
· Prepare packages for shipping. Place paperwork in appropriate area.
· Enter patient drug testing results into EMR System.
· Follow instructions for Quick Test.
· Blood work – Complete appropriate paperwork. Perform venipuncture & label tube with date, your initials & patient name (number for HIV). Centrifuge if required.
· Package sample for shipping.
· Electrocardiogram (EKG) – Prepare patient and perform an EKG. Make copies as needed.
· Pulmonary Function Test (PFT) – Prepare patient and perform a PFT.
· Audiology – Prepare patient & perform audiogram to meet OSHA requirements.
· Breath Alcohol Test – Have current certificate on BOAC equipment. Perform test, complete necessary forms.
· Blood glucose – Perform and record test results.
· Tuberculin test – Subcutaneous injection in either forearm 1cc after pulling back on syringe record dose, location of injection, and educate patient about where results will be read in
48–72 hours.
· Injections – Tetanus / diptheria, hepatitis B, flu immunization, intramuscular medications.
· Give patient appropriate vaccine information sheet and consent must be signed.
· Make sure you are giving the injection in correct muscle location.
· Patient questions should be addressed to a clinician.
· Record dose, batch number, location of injection.
· Explain treatment procedures and prepare patient and exam room for examination.
· Position instruments and equipment and assist physician with any procedures. Dispose of instruments and equipment after use.
· Administer oral medications.
· Perform CLIA‐waived lab tests, draw blood, and collect, label, and process specimens for send‐out.
· Perform dosage calculations for administering medications.
· Remove sutures/staples and change sterile and non‐sterile dressings.
· Complete medical chart to include medical services rendered, test results, and supplies used.
· Perform patient call backs, arrange referrals and testing, and schedule follow‐up appointments.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
· High school diploma or equivalent
· RMA or CMA preferred.
· Ability to accurately read and write medical terminology.
· BLS certification.
· Ability to work all shifts including day, night, and weekend hours as needed.
· Ability to escort or transport patient by wheelchair or stretcher when appropriate.
· Ability to lift 25 pounds.
· Basic computer skills including familiarity with electronic medical records.
· Types 25 words per minute with 96% accuracy.
· Detail oriented with excellent interpersonal communication skills.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
