PURPOSE
Under general supervisor, is responsible for daily supervision of employees who perform mammography and bone density exams. Operates mammography equipment to produce quality images of the breast anatomy for diagnostic purposes. Responsible for carrying out all individual tasks within the QA Program which are not assigned to the lead interpreting physician or the medical physicist. Other duties also included but are not limited to coaching, motivating, recruiting, evaluating and training staff. Carries out all duties while maintaining compliance and confidentiality and promoting the mission and philosophy of the organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Manages, trains, coaches, develops, and supervises staff in busy outpatient clinics.
- Meets staffing requirements as determined by the Radiology Manager, in a manner that effectively and efficiently meets the needs of the providers and patients.
- Builds communication and teamwork by holding regularly scheduled staff meetings to communicate clinic, department and/ or organizational information.
- Meets with staff individually every other month, at minimum, and reports visits to Radiology Manager.
- Remains knowledgeable and up to date with clinic policies and procedures, especially those related to the mammography department.
- Responsible for communicating changes in policies/procedures to assigned staff.
- Maintains records of attendance, on-going evaluation, time off requests, and counseling.
- Interviews prospective employees and communicates with Human Resources throughout the hiring process.
- Works with Staff Development to coordinate new hire training for new employees.
- Coordinates on-site training for new and existing staff members. Provides input to Radiology Manager regarding technical training needed by employees.
- Participates with management team in developing and working towards department goals.
- Evaluates staff performance and provides regular feedback to the staff.
- Coordinates with the Radiology Manager and Human Resources to provide and document counseling or discipline, as appropriate.
- Performs screening mammograms using 2D and 3D medical imaging techniques for mammography patients to demonstrate proper anatomy for interpretation by radiologist.
- Selects proper technical factors based on individual assessment and provides protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards.
- Practices Universal Precautions and prevents cross-contamination.
- Ensures all images meet or exceeds the positioning standards set by the MQSA and ACR.
- Responsible for accurate documentation and tracking of all Quality Control testing of equipment both in mammography and bone density, and logging in results of daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual testing in a timely manner.
- Addresses customer care or service complaints to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Works with support departments to develop systems for an efficient and smooth workflow.
- Responsible for ensuring that each mammography site has the necessary supplies/equipment to operate efficiently. Works with Radiology Manager & Facilities Leadership to determine equipment needs for each of the mammography sites.
- Develops protocols for efficient, skillful and accurate radiology positioning.
- Ensures that each mammography/bone density site has up-to-date procedural manual for the department, which includes Policy & Procedures, Radiation Badge reports and Service Maintenance records, MQSA policies, and EQUIP regulations.
- Follows appropriate patient protection following prescribe safety standards and ALARA.
- Ensures and assists mammography/bone density orders are entered correctly.
- Maintains appropriate credentialing information for staff.
- Demonstrates high level of competence and quality technique when assuming responsibility for short-term staffing coverage.
- Is responsible for the technical aspects of radiology safety, programming and monitoring in carrying out recommendations of the State, local and Federal government.
- Evaluates accuracy and technical quality of exams, demonstrates and explains difficult or new techniques and procedures to staff.
- Adheres to all company policies, including but not limited to OSHA, HIPAA, compliance and Code of Conduct
- Regular and dependable attendance.
- Follows the core competencies set forth by the Company, which are available for review on ARC SharePoint.
- Works holiday shift(s) as required by Company policy.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Attends ongoing organizational leadership training to improve leadership and supervisory skills.
- Assists Radiology Manager as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Satisfactory completion of formal radiology technology training in an AMA-approved school. Five (5) or more years working experience as a Mammographer. Experience with ACR accreditation, MQSA State Inspection procedures, and all QC testing. Familiarity with PACS image retrieval and storage.
Preferred: Two (2) or more years of supervisory or lead experience in radiology services.
Certificate/License:
- Current certifications with ARRT and Texas Medical Board. Current AHA approved Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course completion card. Will be required to maintain a current certification with ARRT and Texas Medical Board and CPR certification during employment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Familiarity with document imaging and workflow systems a plus.
