Ravenscroft is an independent, coeducational day school in Raleigh, NC, with approximately 1,250 students in grades PreK-12.
POSITION OBJECTIVE: Ravenscroft is seeking an individual who can serve as a substitute nurse to provide healthcare services to students PreK-12. The school nurse will collaborate with other school nurses, athletic trainers, school counselors, teachers, parents and school leaders in identifying and meeting social, emotional, and physical needs of students as well as maintain health records of students.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
Individuals in this position may be asked to report for job assignment on short notice.
Clinical Practice:
- Assist students, faculty and staff who become ill or injured on campus.
- Assess and assist children and faculty/staff with urgent injuries or medical needs; administer medications as needed in lower school settings; monitor diabetic students; communicate with parents.
- Collect and maintain protected health information, daily log of visits to Health Center, record keeping, filing and office duties.
- Collaborate with school counselors, teachers, athletic trainers, parents and school leaders in identifying and meeting social, emotional, and physical needs of students.
- Dispense prescribed medications and supervise treatment regimens.
Communication:
- Maintain communication with administrators, teachers and other school personnel and parents/guardians to enhance cooperative action, which will meet the health and safety needs of students.
- Initiate contact with and acts as a liaison between the home, school, community health agencies and the private medical sector to enhance the health and wellness of the school community.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding all school and health-related issues.
QUALIFYING CHARACTERISTICS: Must have excellent communication skills; tact in dealing with parents, students of all ages and faculty/staff. Ability to exercise good judgment, set good examples and comply with school standards. Must be able to meet physical requirements for the school nurse. Is a registered nurse licensed to practice in North Carolina. Confidentiality is a must.
