SUMMARY
The incumbent will develop and implement a systematic approach to engage and ensure Native American youth receive the support and guidance needed to obtain the education, skills, training, experience and credentials required to be competitively employable and successful in the Allied Health field.


JOB DUTIES

  • Collaborates with Fairbanks North Star Borough School District in identifying and recruiting program participants
  • Develops program application and recruiting materials
  • Identifies student interest and eligibility to track into a Health Career for meaningful student educational opportunities and creates Personal Learning and Career Plan (PLCP)
  • Monitors PLCPs, identifying barriers to students, and finding solutions to those barriers
  • Offers career guidance and academic counseling for participating students
  • Works with Alaska Native/American Indian high school students to provide information about career and educational opportunities, coordinates educational testing to implement Health Care programs of study, with a focus on building an Alaska Native Allied Health Cohort
  • Provides coaching/mentoring, support services and assistance for students as identified in the PLCP
  • Serves as a liaison and resource person among the students, parents, schools, partners, for career and technical education ensuring participating students’ success in completing courses and attaining industry recognized credentials
  • Attends the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District quarterly CTE Advisory Council (CTEAC) meetings and other CTE relevant meetings/professional development opportunities
  • Attend in-state and out-of-state CTE related conferences and trainings
  • Makes referrals to community resources as necessary to address barriers to students’ success
  • Develops workshops and other group activities to build foundational skills in entry-level workforce readiness with culturally relevant values, including work attitude, work ethic, verbal skills
  • Provides transitional support services from secondary to post-secondary

  • Ability to report to work in a timely manner
  • Ability to effectively communicate, oral and written, with others to convey technical information
  • Ability to actively listen: giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times
  • Ability to work independently as well as with teams
  • Ability to analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems
  • Knowledge of career and technical education and labor practices and trends at the secondary and post-secondary level
  • Knowledge and sensitivity to diverse cultures and lifestyles, and ability to work effectively with Alaska Native populations
  • Technological skill in operating personal computer utilizing a variety of computer software


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience)

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • Two (2) years of delivering career and technical education activities
  • Two (2) years’ experience in planning and coordinating
  • A combination of experience, education, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may substitute for degree requirements
  • Current CPR/First Aide or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience)

  • Master’s Degree in related field
  • Four (4) year’s experience in planning, coordinating and/or delivering career and technical education courses


WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

The work is generally sedentary, requiring routine walking, standing, bending, and carrying of items weighing less than 25 lbs. The majority of work is performed in an office setting with a wide variety of people with differing functions, personalities, and abilities. The office is a non-smoking facility with outside smoking areas. This position requires local travel between various program components of FNA which may involve exposure to extreme weather conditions. Works in an environment where protection of client confidentiality is essential. Personal Protective Equipment will be provided where/when needed.


SPECIFICATIONS

Supervision Received:
Position receives direct supervision from immediate supervisor; however, incumbent is expected to effectively perform day-to-day activity as denoted within job description. Work will be monitored through weekly meetings, monthly reports, and regular communication with your supervisor. General guidelines for operations are based on program requirements and the general policies and procedures of FNA.

No supervision requirements for this position.

Position Impact:
Impact at the program level is high. Program’s level of compliance with program standards is directly affected by the effective performance of duties, especially as they relate to providing services to families.

Contacts include, and not limited to, volunteers, organizational staff, consumers, and outside agencies.

Per FNA’s automotive insurance policy, in order to drive a FNA-owned vehicle, an individual must be at least 21 years of age. In order to drive a FNA-owned vehicle with consumers in the vehicle, an individual must be at least 25 years of age. No employee may transport a FNA consumer in a personal vehicle.

Continued employment status will be contingent upon satisfactory completion of a criminal background investigation and the pre-employment drug testing process. Where required, continued employment status (post job offer) will be contingent upon employee providing certification of annual tuberculosis (TB) screening and medical certification that employee does not, because of infectious or communicable disease, pose a direct threat or significant risk to the health and safety of program participants or others in the workplace.
