What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Producer position at Fairfax County Government?
Nationally recognized, award-winning government cable television channel seeks highly motivated, results-oriented Assistant Producer to assist in the production of government programming. Duties include:
Assists in camera operation and directing of all government meetings, and field and studio productions.- Assists in planning and coordinating of production logistics for field and studio productions.
- Assists in research, and the drafting and revision of video production scripts.
- Performs editing tasks, including designing and creating graphic elements to enhance video productions.
- Works in a team environment with producer, camera operators and engineers.
- Stays current with technological trends.
- Assists in camera operations for all government access video productions and
- teleconferencing activities, as required;
- Assists in the drafting and revision of scripts needed for government access productions;
- Programs character-generated graphics and logos for live meetings and government
- access channels;
- Attends pre-production meetings and assists government access users;
- Maintains schedule of programming requests and videotape sessions for all government access productions;
- Maintains schedule of requests for institutional network usage;
- Assists in the development of cable brochures and newsletters;
- Selects music, graphics and props needed for all government access programming;
- Performs research tasks as assigned in response to Consumer Protection Commission requests;
- Assists in the training of government users in the operation of video equipment as
- assigned;
- Monitors the lending of all video equipment as assigned.
- Knowledge of the theory, techniques and equipment utilized in producing and taping
- video programs;
- Knowledge of the skills needed to conceive and write scripts for video productions;
- Ability to organize and coordinate all elements of program production;
- Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing;
- Ability to work effectively with co-workers, other County officials, community groups,
- and the general public.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in media communications, journalism, or a related field; plus one year of work experience related to a phase of television production.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
A valid motor vehicle driver's license.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor of arts in communications, film production, or video production.
- Two or more years post-graduate experience in video production.
- Demonstrated experience with directing scripting, field and studio production, live, multi-camera production, and AVID non-linear editing.
- Ability to convey creative concepts to clients and graphic designers.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Requires visual acuity to view images through viewfinders and on computer monitors, and auditory acuity to monitor audio levels during video production. Must be able to operate keyboard driven equipment. Employee may be required to do some walking, standing, bending, and carrying/lifting of items under 20 pounds. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
