Web Content Specialist
Gatehouse Administration Center
Description
- Performs a variety of professional duties required to support the planning, designing, implementation, modification, and maintenance of the Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) public website and school websites;
- assists communications staff with the development and publication of web-pages; creates universal content for school websites and provides support and training for school web curators;
provides creative and editorial support for online communications.
Qualifications
Required
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree, with courses in communications, media, journalism, graphic design, or a related field.
- One (1) year of experience in writing, editing, and developing creative content for websites for a large organization or media outlet.
- Advanced degree(s) beyond the minimum degree requirement in a relevant field may be considered for some experience.
- May require work on evenings, holidays, and weekends.
- Knowledge of technologies used in web publishing such as content management systems, HTML editors, browsers, newsreaders, blogs, and graphics manipulation software.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to ADA compliance and accessibility, public information, privacy rights, and communications.
- Skill in writing, editing, grammar, and graphic design with the ability to develop new editorial products and modify content for distribution.
- Ability to handle multiple projects, react quickly to communications needs, and suggest more effective approaches to production and content packaging.
- Ability to create and maintain web sites conforming to web standards (W3C) including accessibility standards.
- Ability to work as part of a team to ensure a program meets its goals.
- Ability to develop and present professional development to staff throughout the Division.
- Excellent human relations skills and ability to establish and maintain successful cooperative relationships.
- Proficiency in the use of technology with the ability to adapt easily to new technologies for online content creation and distribution.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Preferred
Skill in Drupal, Photoshop, Snagit, and / or Google Analytics.
