M Health Fairview is looking for a Lead Anatomic Pathology Technician for the Core Laboratory at M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center-East Bank. This is a full-time Day shift position (7:00 am-3:30 pm), 2 out of 6 weekends, occasional holidays.
The Core Laboratory is an engaging work environment focused on patient safety and experience. The patient population is diverse, and the lab processes inpatient and outpatient samples. The duties include specimen handling, receiving, processing (centrifugation and aliquoting of patient samples), managing sample accountability, answering nursing and provider questions, coordinating specimen drops and patient collections, etc.
The lead assignment coordinates the daily workflow and solves issues which need resolution within a department, in a peer-to-peer relationship and as a liaison with leadership. The focus is to strengthen and enhance the work climate and workflow. The lead has a high level of technical expertise and displays role model competency in knowledge, communication and experience while acting as the primary peer resource.
This technical lead will be primarily responsible for the preanalytical areas of receiving and processing.
The core laboratory operates equipment to receive and process most of its specimens for testing. This lead position will lead the operation of the instrumentation, facilitate the use of this equipment on the day shift, assist in identifying conditions to improve or affect turnaround, and collaborate on procedures and policies for manual and automated workflows. The lead will support receiving and aliquoting, working directly with other processing and testing leaders to improve quality results. In this fast-paced environment the lead will be directing workflows and assisting improvement processes constantly.

Responsibilities Job Description
The Lead Anatomic Pathology Technician (Lead APT) performs all work processes for the preparation or procurement of specimens used for high complexity testing as defined by CLIA'88. The Lead APT possesses knowledge of the pathology/clinical laboratories, performs routine and specialty processes, recognizes problems, identifies basic causes, and makes corrections using established protocols. The Lead APT analyzes data based on knowledge of technical and instrumental conditions affecting diagnostic test results and performs procedures within established parameters. The Lead APT collaborates with the customers of the laboratory to assure an exceptional customer experience. The Lead APT works independently under general supervision.

Job Expectations includes: follows established guidelines to prioritize work, follows established guidelines and procedures to accession/order enter specimens/tests into the computer system, performs all work processes necessary for the production of specimens used for high complexity testing as defined by CLIA'88, works independently under general supervision, recognizes problems and takes appropriate measures to resolve them, evaluates diagnostic preparations for quality and initiates interventions as needed, complies with Laboratory Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement, and Laboratory Compliance Programs, performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- 24 credits college coursework with at least 12 credits in chemistry or biological sciences, or
- 24 credits college coursework 2 years' of medical laboratory experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- BS degree
- 1-2 years of experience in a clinical laboratory or anatomic diagnostic laboratory
