Job Summary
The Community Learning Center Director has full responsibility for providing a wide-range of services designed to ensure the educational success of tribal learners of all ages while building and maintaining the Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribal cultural identity and assisting to provide for the health, education, economy and social wellbeing of our members and future members; and to preserve and promote our culture, language and religious beliefs and practices and pass them on to our children, our grandchildren and to their grandchildren. The Director will develop and oversee implementation of the comprehensive academic services, including curriculum and assessments, will be a key liaison between Tribe and local educational agencies (LEA), and will work closely with staff to develop activities integrated with academics, cultural, and the tribal community. The CLC Director will coordinate services, and secondary, post-secondary, adult basic education /GED, after-school programs, comparing them to the established objectives, and taking steps to ensure that appropriate measures are taken to correct unsatisfactory results.

Duties

  • Oversee the development and execution of academic and cultural programming and curriculum content consistent with the LEA standards, customs, and traditions of the Fallon Paiute-Shoshone people, and with the CLC’s mission and program goals.
  • Supervises and regularly evaluates staff and program effectiveness
  • Develops, implements and maintains program budgets; creates, prepares and submits grant applications/paperwork; monitors and maintains grant funded projects ensuring compliance with applicable guidelines; ensures program activities align with grant/contract requirements; facilitates collection of and analyzes data; prepares special and recurring reports
  • Develop, monitor, and enforce procedures and policies for the safe and effective operation of the overall learning center.
  • Serves as a liaison between the Tribe, local schools, and parents/Tribal community to strengthen and enhance the relationship between all parties. Meet regularly with principal/administrators/teachers and work closely with LEA staff.
  • Collaborate and engages FPST elders, students, parents, tribal programs and all community embers to improve the academic, social, and well-being of all participants
  • Administers the Tribe’s higher education program, adult education program, adult vocational training, enrichment programs, and participant transportation
  • Creates and facilitates workshops, forums, and institutes for Tribal members, schools, and public on the Fallon Paiute-Shoshone culture, belief, and languages
  • Supervise library development and maintenance
  • Develops and modifies curriculum to meet the needs of individuals via hands-on developmentally appropriate and highly interactive methods
  • Coordinates computer labs and equipment and software updates
  • Manage and maintain daily operations of afterschool and summer break programs, including but not limited to: monitoring attendance, enrollment/assist with registration process, ensure daily safety of participant’s appropriate staff-to-participant ratio, and effectively handling discipline and disruptions to the learning center environment
  • Develop and coordinate professional development, academic outreach, adult vocational, and support workshop opportunities for individuals for secondary and post-secondary opportunities
  • Develop and oversee student achievement plan to improve graduation rates and post-secondary institution success. With program staff, conduct ongoing outreach at schools and in the community, including classroom presentations, guest workshops, and participating at relevant events
  • Maintain frequent and regular communications with participants and the community through correspondence, newsletters, website, one-on-one meetings, etc. as appropriate
  • Maintain cleanliness in all program areas; including the upkeep of the equipment and facility in an acceptable manner and the set-up and breakdown during the program day to contribute to ongoing efforts to keep the center orderly

Skills and Qualifications

  • THIS POSITION REQUIRES COMPLIANCE WITH THE INDIAN CHILD PROTECTION and FAMILY VIOLENCE PREVENTION ACT PUBLIC LAW 101-630; 25 CODE of FEDERAL REGULATIONS PART 63 - INDIAN CHILD PROTECTION and FAMILY VIOLENCE PREVENTION; CRIME CONTROL ACT OF 1990, EMPLOYEE BACKGROUND CHECKS; and EXECUTIVE ORDER 12968, ADJUDICATIVE GUIDELINES AND THEREFORE MUST SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE AN EXTENSIVE BACKGROUND CHECK BEFORE START EMPLOYMENT.
  • This position requires that the candidate be a mandated reporter.
  • A minimum of two years' experience in development and management of community-based programs.
  • Experienced professional with a Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred), or significant similar program management experience; and
  • Three years' experience in administration, budget oversight, employee management, and
  • Experience in developing and implementing a cultural program, and
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in supervising a staff, and
  • Must obtain Food Handler's Card, complete Blood Borne Pathogen training, and CPR certification within six (6) months of start date, and attend IHS Sanitizing class

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $32.99 - $39.39 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
