Title: Lab Phlebotomist Trainee
Location: Laboratory Services in FCN clinics located in Whatcom and Skagit County
Clinics located in Bellingham, Birch Bay, Ferndale, Lynden, Mount Vernon and Anacortes, WA
Position: Full-time, 32 hours per week, float position with variable shifts and locations, non-exempt (hourly),
Compensation: $16.53 per hour during the training program. Upon the issuance of the Medical Assistant/Phlebotomist (MA-P) license through the Department of Health, the employee will be promoted to the position of Lab Assistant/Phlebotomist and their wage will increase to $18.25 per hour. We also offer a $3.00 per hour shift differential for eligible evening and weekend hours.
Bonus: Candidates are eligible to receive a Retention Bonus of $1,000 upon successful completion of the Lab Phlebotomy Training Program (subject to payback clause). After one year of employment as a Lab Assistant/Phlebotomist (MA-P), the employee will receive another $1,000 Retention bonus (subject to payback clause). Additionally, employees are eligible annually to participate in discretionary bonus programs, as determined by FCN, which include the Years-of-Service bonus program, the Quality Performance bonus program and the Performance Recognition bonus program.
Job Summary:
The Lab Phlebotomist Trainee will learn basic phlebotomy skills and complete the FCN Lab Phlebotomy Training Program to facilitate obtaining the WA State Medical Assistant-Phlebotomist license within 90 days of hire. The training will be provided by the Lab Assistant/Phlebotomist Leads and Lab Assistant/Phlebotomists. Ideal candidates have previous medical, clinical laboratory, or reference laboratory experience.
Phlebotomy Samples Testing Responsibilities:
- Computer inquiry and entry to maintain patient demographics as well as test ordering details in accordance with compliance guidelines
- Process and prepare samples for testing at FCN draw stations
- Process, prepare and package samples for delivery to FCN Laboratory
- Conducts work in accordance with all regulatory accreditation agency requirements. Process all specimen types and sources to be analyzed by the laboratory including blood, urine, cultures, and other body fluids
Phlebotomist responsibilities:
- Complete required phlebotomy procedures including venous and capillary punctures, and urine collections for medical testing procedures, and other duties as assigned
General Responsibilities:
- Scanning, data entry, and other clerical duties, as assigned
- Maintains organized and clean workspace
- Completes and reports on special assignments as needed
- Complies with all FCN policies and procedures
- Maintains courteous and effective interactions with colleagues and patients

Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One (1) year of medical, clinical laboratory or reference laboratory experience preferred
- Ability to obtain a Medical Assistant Phlebotomist (MA-P) certification through the Washington State Department of Health within 90 days of hire.
- Current BLS within 60 days of hire.
Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hand to finger coordination, handle or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and listen attentively. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
Immunization requirements: All employees at Family Care Network (FCN) are expected to meet and maintain required immunizations as a contingency of employment. The immunization requirements are as follows: Influenza (annually), Tdap (after the age of 19), MMR, Varicella or a verified history of chickenpox disease, Two-step TST or IGRA (within the last 12 months), COVID-19 vaccine completed series and any additional immunizations determined necessary for the protection of staff and patients. Hepatitis B is also required for employees in positions with a high risk of bloodborne pathogen exposure, which includes the following: Providers, RNs, LPNs, MA-Cs, PSRs at all Urgent Care Locations, and all-laboratory staff. The Hepatitis B vaccine is strongly recommended for all other employees. FCN will cover the cost of required immunizations for any FCN employee. All employee immunizations will be administered by FCN staff except for the COVID-19 vaccine. The COVID-19 vaccine can be administered at a participating pharmacy or other healthcare location. Note: A medical or religious vaccine exemption/reasonable accommodation will be considered by submitting an FCN Exemption form for review and evaluation by the Chief Medical Officer.
