Reporting to the Clinical Director, the Clinical Trainee provides mental health assessments and psychotherapy services to help clients overcome social, emotional and mental health challenges to enjoy a greater sense of well-being.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ENVIRONMENT:
Education, Training & Work Experience: Master’s or Doctorate degree in one of the following areas: LPCC, MFT, LICSW, LPP, PNP or Psychiatrist and on a licensure track to become a mental health professional in Minnesota.
Clinical Trainee Qualifications: A clinical trainee is a staff person who; (1) is enrolled in an accredited graduate program of study to prepare the staff person for independent licensure as a mental health professional and who is participating in a practicum or internship with the license holder through the individual’s graduate program; or (2) has completed an accredited graduate program of study to prepare the staff person for independent licensure as a mental health professional and who is in compliance with the requirements of the applicable health-related licensing board, including requirements for supervised practice.
Clinical Trainee Scope Of Practice
Equipment & Applications: Ability to independently execute desktop PC applications including Gmail and Microsoft products.
Work Environment & Physical Demands: Normal office environment and related indoor conditions with minimal, infrequent lifting, bending and standing. Some home-based services provided in community settings and/or client homes. Some travel may be required.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Direct Care Services: Provide psychotherapy services within scope of expertise to individuals, couples, families and groups. Services include but are not limited to: individual therapy, couples or family therapy, group therapy, in-home therapy, diagnostic assessments and other assessments or direct services as trained or qualified. Maintain full caseload equal to no less than 70% of time allocated for psychotherapy and/or other billable direct services.
- Documentation: Maintain client files, ensuring complete and timely documentation of provided services in accordance with agency policies and governing standards. Complete all required forms and billing entries in the electronic health records (EHR) system in a timeframe consistent with service and billing requirements.
- Training and Consultation: Participate in scheduled individual and/or group supervision, staff meetings and other agency meetings as requested. Seek out appropriate consultation with supervisor or other clinicians as needed when encountering challenging cases. Maintain certification/license in good standing and remain current in required hours of staff development.
- Agency Participation: Participate in scheduled individual and/or group supervision, staff meetings and other agency meetings, committees or groups as requested. Perform community presentations and other outreach services as required.
- External Relationships: Maintain positive relationships with referral sources and assure purchasers and clients they are receiving the highest quality services that focus on best practice and evidence based models with successful outcomes. Market a positive public image of the organization and services to build and maintain caseload requirements.

Clinical Trainee Scope Of Practice
- A clinical trainee under the treatment supervision of a mental health professional may provide a client with psychotherapy, client education, rehabilitative mental health services, diagnostic assessments, functional assessments, level of care assessments and treatment plans.
- A clinical trainee must not provide treatment supervision to other staff persons. A clinical trainee may provide direction to mental health behavioral aides and mental health rehabilitation workers.
- A psychological clinical trainee under the treatment supervision of a psychologist may perform psychological testing of clients.
- A clinical trainee must not provide services to clients that violate any practice act of a health-related licensing board, including failure to obtain licensure if licensure is required.
