Title: Finance Manager

Reports to: Executive Director

Supervises: N/A

Status: Full time; Exempt; Hybrid position, requiring 3-4 days/week on-site in Dorchester, MA

Organization Overview:

Family Nurturing Center of MA (FNC) provides family strengthening, parenting education, and early childhood development programming in historically marginalized neighborhoods throughout the City of Boston, and training for family service providers across the Commonwealth. FNC’s 70-person team represents the communities we serve; 30% of us are graduates of an FNC program, and over 80% of us are People of Color and/or immigrants. Our work is rooted in racial and social justice, and we approach families with respect and nurturing joy.

Position Overview:

The Finance Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of Family Nurturing Center’s finance department. Reporting to the Executive Director and working in close collaboration with the Operations and Human Resources Manager and outsourced accounting team, the Finance Manager is responsible for a wide range of business transactions, as well as continuing to strengthen systems to maximize efficiency and effectiveness. Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Budgeting and Analysis

  • Manage annual preparation of a mission-driven budget, working in close collaboration with the Executive Team and outsourced accounting team
  • Conduct financial analyses to allow the Executive Team and program leaders to make data-informed decisions; provide strategic thought partnership for the Executive Director on matters related to finance

Cash Management

  • Manage cash and ensure funds are adequate to meet operational needs

Audit and Other Filings

  • Lead annual audit preparation in collaboration with auditors
  • Ensure completion of Form 990, Massachusetts Form PC and 1099 submissions

Grant/Contract Billing

  • Lead preparation of monthly invoices and financial reports for a wide range of funders including the Department of Children and Families; the City of Boston; and private foundations, with support of outsourced accounting team
  • Support execution of grants and contract documents, ensuring appropriate systems are in place for billing and financial reporting.

Accounts Receivables and Payables

  • Ensure cash receipts are coded and properly reflected in the general ledger
  • Process accounts payable via BILL and manual checks; record all business transactions in QuickBooks
  • Reconcile credit cards on a monthly basis with support of Operations Manager

Financial Reporting

  • Collaborate with outsourced accounting to manage monthly close and produce financial statements
  • Along with the Executive Director, staff the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors; schedule meetings and support the preparation of reports and agendas

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide training and technical assistance for staff to support the development of financial literacy and management and skills within FNC’s team.
  • Maintain up-to-date industry knowledge via regular research, training, and consultation; leverage best practices to improve FNC systems.
  • Collaborate with Operations and Human Resources Manager to renew insurance policies annually
  • Act as “back up” to process bi-weekly payroll and to cover other responsibilities assigned to the Manager of Operations and Human Resources is his/her absence.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A minimum of 6 years of professional experience, nonprofit accounting preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Accounting degree strongly preferred
  • Strong financial analysis skills; ability to make sense of complex financial data and translate it for a wide range of audiences
  • Strong familiarity with Microsoft Office, QuickBooks Online and BILL; ability to assess, learn, and lead the implementation of new digital systems
  • Commitment to leveraging resources to best support FNC’s staff and clients

Compensation: the salary range for this position is $85,000 – 95,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
