What are the responsibilities and job description for the Certified or Registered Medical Coder position at Family Practice Center?
Family Practice Center, P.C. is currently seeking a Full-Time Certified Coder in our Administration office in Selinsgrove.
Family Practice operates 40 office locations in 14 Central PA counties. We offer a wide range of services including family medicine, pediatrics, counseling services, onsite lab and x-ray, and much more. Qualifications: Medical Coding registration or certification
Certification/Licensure: CPC or RMC
Experience: 3-5 years of E/M coding/auditing experience preferred.
Alternative to minimum qualifications: Equivalent work experience to demonstrate knowledge of coding but registration or certification preferred.
General Summary of Duties: Diagnosis and Procedure coding review
Supervision Received: Compliance Officer, however, additional duties and oversight will occur by Operations Manager and Practice Administrator.
Typical Physical Demands: Work will require sitting for long periods of time, stooping, bending and stretching for files and/or supplies. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, type, operate a telephone, fax machine, and other such necessary office equipment. Vision must be correctable to 20/20 and hearing within normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours. Will be necessary to view and type on a computer screen for long periods of time.
Typical Working Condition: Work is performed in an office environment. Most work will be performed using a computer. Interaction with coding team.
Potential Exposures: Alcohol-based hand sanitizers, hand soap, copier toner
Expectations of Position – to include but not limited to:
- Self-motivation and works independently on tasks assigned.
- Adequate knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS coding.
- Understanding of HCC codes.
- This job requires access to PHI. HIPAA training is required and HIPAA compliance is expected.
- Follow procedures according to OSHA.
- Follow procedures according to FPC protocol.
- Performs related work as required.
Examples of Duties – to include but not limited to:
- Verify submission or proper use of HCC codes.
- Verify chart documentation supports diagnosis assigned.
- Appropriate communication with medical providers.
- Answer provider/staff questions regarding appropriate coding.
- Provide training sessions on coding to providers.
- Chart data extraction and data entry.
- Quarterly review with coding team.
- Review audits of physician coder.
- Attends training sessions to maintain knowledge and expertise.
- Trains employees when requested.
- Completes multiple assignments by prioritizing and delegating when necessary and appropriate.
- Maintains confidentiality and discretion.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
