Summary

Family Service League is seeking a per-diem Advocate for a homeless shelter in Smithtown. The Advocate will ensure the safety of families and their children, enforce shelter rules, complete intake consent forms, and conduct curfew checks.

Responsibilities

• The Advocate will use good judgment and remain calm in high-stress situations.
• Conduct intakes for new clients.
• Provide ongoing support and counseling for clients in reaching their goals.
• Establish and maintain positive working relationships.
• The Advocate will work cooperatively, help set goals, resolve problems, and enhance the program.
• Provide conflict resolution strategies.
• Conduct regular perimeter checks for safety.
• Issue violations for breaking rules.
• Open locker and sheds for clients to access their belongings.
• Oversee and document clients while they self-administer medication.
• Serve meals.
• The Advocate will supervise bedtime, distribute bed rolls, linens placed in appropriate bins for laundry service.
• Routine bed and bathroom check and document log for safety.
• Access donation closet for clothing as needed.
• Oversee shower times and distribute toiletries as needed.
• Report and document all incidents with detail and accuracy.
• Transport clients as needed.
• All other duties as assigned.

Available Shifts

• 12:00 AM - 8:00 AM
• 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM
• 4:00 PM - 12:00 AM

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in human services preferred.
• Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office, required.
• Valid and clean NYS Driver's License required.
• Flexibility to work at different sites is preferred.
• Flexibility to work weekends required.
