Job Description
As a valued colleague on our Credit Risk Transfer (CRT) team, you will contribute to monitoring financial markets and initiating transactions according to our CRT strategy. You will utilize existing strategies for analyzing financial market data, determine trends or patterns, help to execute transactions based on the analysis of financial market data, effectively transfer a portion of credit risk to private capital, and collaborate with your team and management to achieve our objectives.
THE IMPACT YOU WILL MAKE
CRT is a critical function within Fannie Mae’s Capital Markets group. Fannie Mae developed this new market in 2013, which has quickly grown to become an important part of the broader fixed income markets and a critical part of Fannie Mae’s business model. The key focus of the Capital Markets group is to create, price, and trade MBS to manage Fannie Mae’s interest rate and duration risk, and issue CRT securities and other instruments to manage our credit risk exposure. As such CRT remains a business unit with heightened visibility across senior leadership as well as a key component of our annual FHFA scorecard deliverable.
The Capital Markets - Market Transactions – Senior Associate role will offer you the flexibility to make each day your own, while working alongside people who care so that you can deliver on the following responsibilities:
- Concept: As a Senior Associate, you will be part of the CRT trading desk and will have the responsibility to work with our external trustee partners to manage ongoing monthly activities for our over $20 billion portfolio of outstanding CRT securities. In this role, you will have exposure to all aspects of the CRT business. You will conduct in-depth analysis and complete complex data visualization projects in direct support of our mission, market-facing activities, and external investor communications.
- Cross functional business model: CRT is a small cross-functional group, which provides the opportunity to work with numerous other groups, such as Single-Family Analytics, Investor Marketing, Operations & Technology and Risk teams as well as a host of other internal and external partners. CRT touches the entire single-family business model.
Potential role and responsibilities include:
- In this role your responsibilities will be diverse, however you will have the responsibility to implement new code-based process efficiencies, specifically in “R”. This position offers the [Senior] Associate a wide latitude to control their own scope of work and to develop new processes. Potential future responsibilities may include data and market analysis in support of the broader Capital Markets CRT team.
- Approximate existing technology breakdown: As still a relatively new business unit and one that is at a constant state of change and new discovery, we remain in the development stage. Below is an approximate breakdown of our existing / contemplated future technology allocation.
- R/R Shiny: 70% / 80%
- SAS: 10% / 0%
- Python: 5% / 5%
- Tableau: 15% / 15%

Skills
Adept at managing project plans, resources, and people to ensure successful project completion
- Experience gathering accurate information to explain concepts and answer critical questions
- Experience in the process of analyzing data to identify trends or relationships to inform conclusions about the data
- Skilled in creating and managing databases
- Skilled in the graphical representation of information in the form of a charts, diagrams, pictures, and dashboards with programs and tools such as Excel or Tableau
- The group of skills related to Programming including coding, debugging, and using relevant programming languages
- Skilled in documentation and database reporting for the purposes of analysis, data discovery, and decision-making
