A Day in the Life:
As a Grain Elevator Superintendent, your main responsibility is to ensure that our grain elevators are running smoothly and efficiently. This includes completing and maintaining all the paperwork that is involved with the elevator operation, managing the elevator staff, overseeing all the grain movement, loading trains, loading and unloading trucks, and interacting with the producers when they deliver grain. To do this job, you must be able to operate all aspects and machinery of the grain elevator. If at a train load out facility, you are responsible for the proper loading of trains including proper staffing and completing in a timely manner. You will work hand in hand with location managers, regional managers, and grain managers to communicate grain operations and policies to elevator staff. You must learn and properly be able to start-up and shut-down all grain handling equipment involved with the elevator. You will be asked to complete confined space entries as well as cleaning grain bins. You are responsible for the grain quality coming out of your facility. This position is primarily hands-on working outside but there will be occasional paperwork and time in the office. You will be responsible in following and training proper safety procedures and protocols for employees working in the grain elevator and assisting with trains. You are to ensure that our customers are treated well and that our grain stays in good condition. You will be expected to work hard, and you will have to work more hours during busy seasons. Safety is always our number one priority and we do everything we can to ensure the safest work environments for our employees, therefore you will be required and expected to adhere to all safety rules and regulations and complete necessary training. This is an extremely skilled position requiring an individual that takes pride in their work, pays attention to details, and upholds Farmers Cooperative policies, mission and core values.

What You'll Need to Do This Job:

  • High School Diploma and/or equivalent
  • Basic millwright/equipment operations knowledge
  • Farming or agriculture background/knowledge preferred
  • Highly motivated self-starter
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Basic computer skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • The ability to think clearly and problem solve
  • The desire to be involved in agriculture and work for a cooperative
  • Physically, this position requires you to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, and crawl on a regular basis
  • This position requires you to climb ladders and ride the man-lift. You must be able to regularly lift at least 50 pounds and occasionally lift 100 pounds.
  • You will be exposed to grain dust, chemicals and fertilizers, and outdoor elements and temperatures
  • You must be flexible with your schedule as more hours will be expected during harvest and planting seasons and you must be available when trains come to unload/load grain.
