What are the responsibilities and job description for the Staff Accountant position at Farmers State Bank?
POSITION SUMMARY: This position is primarily responsible for financial record keeping and analysis, account reconciliations, and projects involving the Accounting Dept. This position will also be responsible for regulatory reporting and preparing financial statements for subsidiary and bank holding company. Work must be performed in compliance with bank policies and procedures as well as applicable state, federal, banking regulations, and tax laws.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
ACCOUNTABILITY 1:
Maintain schedules and reconciliations of G/L accounts as assigned. Prepare monthly analysis statements on various accounts to track activity and variances to prior year and budget.
ACCOUNTABILITY 2:
Assist the Accounting Assistant with daily balancing and accounts payable as needed. Be the primary back-up for this position. Become an expert user of BankTel and serve as contact for employees with questions. Some of these duties will be rotated between the Accounting Assistant and the Staff Accountant on a regular basis.
ACCOUNTABILITY 3:
Assist the Assistant Controller with specific assigned tasks and learn the responsibilities of that position including investment accounting, fixed asset accounting, pre-paid accounting and accounting for property tax assessments/payments. Some of these duties will be rotated between the Staff Accountant and the Assistant Controller on a regular basis.
ACCOUNTABILITY 4:
Assist the CFO and Controller in compiling information for various financial and tax reports or special projects and audits.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent applicable work experience
- Two years of experience in accounting, preferably in a banking environment is preferred
- Knowledge of accounting practices
- Knowledge of banking regulations, policies, and procedures a plus
- Exceptional analytical and problem solving abilities
- Good organizational skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize
- Detail oriented, produces accurate and timely work
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Ability to work under deadline pressure
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to efficiently use a 10-key pad
