What are the responsibilities and job description for the Optician position at Fashion Eye Center?

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

A vision care professional who helps patients to be properly fitted with new contact lenses and eyeglasses, after obtaining prescriptions from optometrists and ophthalmologists. Opticians also assist customers to decide which contact lenses or eyeglass frames to purchase.

Understanding Patient’s Needs

  • Greets all patients with a smile and make eye contact
  • Personal recognition of patients’ needs for eye wear & insurance coverage
  • Identify patient’s needs, explain all benefits, and offer products relative to their lifestyle, optical, and cosmetic needs
  • Always thank them for their patronage to your optical
  • Verify patient’s insurance, address, phone, eye care history, eligibility, and make changes as necessary
  • Answer phone on 2nd or 3rd ring
  • Provides friendly, accurate assistance to callers
  • Helps caller or takes messages as appropriate

Optical Patient Services

  • Educate each patient on available lens options and frames
  • Consistently educates the patient of available eye wear & options to meet his/her individual needs
  • Documents all patient communications in patient’s file
  • Correctly measure PD, seg. Heights and all other optically related measurements
  • Has a broad knowledge of products available
  • Consistently meets the patients eye wear needs with minimal errors

Ordering and Dispensing Optical Products

  • Accurately completes all required job order information
  • Accurately & timely orders all patient eye wear
  • All job orders are sent to lab same day order is placed
  • Notify patients immediately of delays in their order or remake
  • Demonstrate the ability to correctly adjust/repair patient frames
  • Notify patients immediately when their order is ready for dispense
  • Understands importance of making sure patient is satisfied with their order
  • Accurately document all communications with patient by noting in patients file; including date and time along with a summary of the conversation
  • Make follow up phone calls to ensure patients satisfaction

Optical Inventory & Merchandising

  • Accurately check in, tag, price, and display new merchandise
  • Invoice must be initialed and dated by receiver
  • Accurately return and track all defective frames for immediate credit
  • Restock supplies, frames, contacts, cases, and accessories as needed

Cash/Sales Accountability and Daily close out/Deposit

  • Accurately and timely completes all cash sales transaction
  • Reconciles all sales slips to receipt of payment
  • Records all cash, check, and credit collections
  • Performs daily cash procedures and close out
  • Make sure all invoices are accounted for
  • Records cash, credit card, & check on logs for daily deposits
  • Complete deposit slips to be deposited
  • Makes copies of all required items
  • Consistently balances drawer and credit card machine
  • Forward paperwork to optical manager

Teamwork

  • Help the team succeed by being a team player
  • Create and promote Fashion Eye Center by ensuring that each patient has a truly unique experience
  • Any and all other assignments or tasks as requested by the Doctor, Optical Director, or Optical Manager

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Certification in ABO,NCLE (or willing to apply)
  • Licensed Optician (or willing to apply)
  • Minimum two years working as an optician
  • Working knowledge of all aspects regarding eye wear
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Personable; empathetic with patient’s needs and concerns
  • Well-organized with attention to detail
  • Ability to work as a team member
  • Demonstrated computer literacy

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
