POSITION SUMMARY
The Family Therapist implements the Family Services through motivational counseling and assistance to families so they may better understand the disease process of substance use disorder, the relapse process, recovery, relapse prevention, and how it affects family members/significant others/support.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conducts Family Program, including lectures, films/videos and discussions, multi-family groups and one-on-one counseling. (Note: When "family" is used, it shall also include "significant other" and “support” as necessary.)
- Works with family members through conjoint sessions so they may better understand substance use disorder and provide support for the patient.
- Documents each family member's progress and participation in the program, including attendance.
- Presents lectures to entire patient and family community to enhance the understanding of family issues as needed.
- Refers family members to other continuing care services needed; maintains resource files for further referrals.
- Meets with patient’s family at time of admission and explains the Ashley continuum of care and Family Services offerings to them. Provides packets of information to the family members and the admissions team to distribute in the absence of the Family Therapist.
- Initiates and maintains computerized record keeping as appropriate.
- Participate in weekly Family Services team meetings.
- Communicates on a daily basis with the clinical inpatient counseling team and continuing care case managers on pertinent data relating to their respective patients.
- Performs duties of Family Services Manager in their absence.
- Assists with Family Services administrative duties including communication and documentation as needed.
- Participates in Quality Improvement Programs, including committee membership when nominated.
- Participates in supervision/case conceptualization meetings as needed.
- Attends trainings and conferences to obtain CEU’s to maintain licensure.
- Participates in developing workshops and programming for family and patients.
- Conduct specialized counseling groups addressing family dynamics and recovery.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Master’s degree in clinical field.
- Licensed clinician in the state of Maryland.
- Five years' experience in family counseling or equivalent preferred.
- Must be able to speak and write clearly; must have excellent listening skills.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office to include Outlook, Word and Excel. Knowledge of telehealth platform and services.
- Able to interpret educational material, assessments, and treatment plans so that family members understand contents; able to probe and draw out thoughts, feelings, problems, concerns and fears of the patient's family.
- Licensure & certifications appropriate in family therapy; CPR certified
