Summary: A Doula performs direct contact and support services for the labor and delivery process to families. A Doula also provides a constant supportive presence to work toward improved infant outcomes. A Doula maintains regular contact and support with families for a time period of approximately 26 weeks prenatal to 8 weeks postpartum.


Normal Work Hours: 8:00 – 4:00 Monday – Friday with the possibility of weekend and after hours work due to trainings, appointments with clients, childbirths, or emergency preparedness events. This position is exempt status and includes on call due to the need to attend childbirths.


Necessities:

  • Must keep the identity and health information of all clients confidential at all times.
  • Must maintain valid driver's license, registration, and vehicle insurance and be able to drive his/her vehicle for any work assignments.
  • Must follow DCFS mandated reporting requirements.
  • Must successfully pass a fingerprint and background check.
  • Must understand and speak fluent English.

Physical Demands of the Job:

  • Must be able to bend and stoop repetitively.
  • Must be able to be on one's feet for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must be able to work at a computer station for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift required equipment which is normally 20-40 pounds.
  • Must be mobile enough to fulfill the job requirements which include the ability to get in and out of the vehicle, traverse rough terrains, and enter spaces which may be totally handicapped inaccessible.

Environmental Factors:

  • Must be able to work in confined spaces as needed.
  • Must be able to work in conditions of extreme cold or heat as needed.

Essential Job Functions (Duties and Responsibilities):

  • Conducts an intensive visit (minimum of one hour) to clients/families in their homes on a regular basis (initially minimum of weekly or bi-weekly).
  • Provides intervention that promotes the likelihood of establishing trust, strengthening parent/child relationship, improving upon parenting skills and problem solving.
  • Facilitates prenatal workshops utilizing a group curriculum that focuses on prenatal education, mother-infant relationships and promoting breastfeeding.
  • Refers families to community agencies or other health department services as needed.
  • Assists in the establishment of a detailed birth plan.
  • Attends and participates in all required Ounce of Prevention and Fayette County Health Department in-service education.
  • Writes daily reports of activities and documents time and travel with absolute integrity.
  • Informs supervisor of any difficult situations and attends supervision on a weekly basis.
  • Collaborates with other health department programs and other community agencies as necessary.
  • Informs supervisors or other case managers of client status and upon request.
  • Operates Cornerstone hardware and documents client information in timely manner.
  • Participates in program quality assurance activities upon request.
  • Carries out program activities in a nonjudgmental and culturally sensitive manner.
  • Completes all classes and documentation in a timely manner in order to become a certified Doula.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires a high school diploma or GED; and.
  • Current CPR certification is preferred.

Salary : $17 - $20
