Fayetteville Technical Community College is seeking qualified applicants for this full-time position to prepare instructional laboratory set-ups, materials, equipment, and supplies for student and staff use; to provide technical information and assistance to students; to perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled activities involving the preparation and maintenance of the grounds, nursery, and greenhouses at the Wesley A. Meredith Horticulture Education Center. Qualified candidates will possess excellent computer skills; demonstrate evidence of flexible work experiences and a willingness to be open-minded, fair, and possess the ability to see multiple perspectives; be willing to take and manage risks and accept responsibility for professional and personal growth.
Duties
Assist instructional staff with preparation for demonstrations; set up laboratory facility and prepare necessary materials and equipment.
Provide general information, instruction, and assistance to students on equipment operation, use and location of materials, safety procedures, and a variety of laboratory and course related matters; monitor and review student work in progress and assist in resolving problems.
Assist in the ordering and maintenance of supply and material inventories; maintain equipment and supply usage records.
Supervise and participate in the general maintenance of the laboratory; perform routine preventive maintenance and make minor repairs on equipment; coordinate and schedule maintenance and repair with outside vendors.
Plan, prioritize, assign, lead, and review the work of staff involved in the maintenance and upkeep of all green space and landscaped areas at the Wesley A. Meredith Horticulture Education Center as directed by the Department Chair of Horticulture Technology.
Install and maintain irrigation systems.
Install and maintain shrubbery, perennials, and annual plant material; prune and shape shrubbery and trees; update and maintain a plant list and the plants needed to prepare students for the Certified Plant Professional test.
Apply insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, and fertilizers.
Supervise all aspects of plant growth and development for greenhouse and nursery stock; make vegetative cuttings and grafts from existing parent stock; transplant and organize greenhouse plants.
Provide technical/functional training and supervision of assigned staff.
Attend workshops, conferences, and meetings related to assigned area of responsibility.
Perform related duties as assigned.

Associate degree in Horticulture Technology or related field with three years experience performing any combination of greenhouse, nursery, and/or landscape maintenance duties.
Public Ground Operators Pesticide Applicator license.
Ability to lift up to 100 lbs.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; understand and follow oral and written instructions. Must have efficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word).
