- Oversees Fernbank's security operations, including equipment and personnel.
- Evaluates, develops and writes all security procedures and practices, working in conjunction with Registrar/Collections Manager for collections-specific procedures.
- Develops, presents and implements new methods for security's operational improvement when appropriate.
- Prepares periodic budget estimate and reports.
- Orders supplies and equipment as needed.
- Reviews financial reports to ensure security operational efficiency and quality control.
- Develops and administers preventative safety and security programs.
- Performs audits of security related performance and conducts physical surveys of premise security, including security equipment condition.
- In conjunction with HR, conducts and prepares reports relating to internal investigations of any incidents or violations of Fernbank security policies and procedures.
- Assists in development and implementation of security training for both security and Fernbank staff.
- Assists in maintenance of the Museum's disaster preparedness, response, and recovery plan.
- Serves as Fernbank's liaison with public law enforcement, fire and other agencies as it relates to security.
- Manages staff of FT and PT security officers, including work assignments and schedules.
- Supervises key control and maintains key inventory.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, criminal justice, law enforcement, security or a related field, or equivalent number of years of experience.
- 3-5 years full-time experience, including managerial experience, or highly responsible work relating to tasks assigned to this position.
- Must be able to work late and irregular hours, including evening, weekend, and holiday hours.
- Exceptional communication, customer service and organizational skills including the ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple projects.
- Computer proficiency with MS Office to include Excel, Word, Outlook
- Proven ability to deal effectively with the public in emergency situations and to apply these practices to a private organization; strategic orientation with ability to act tactically as required a plus.
- Ability to physically patrol (walk, run, climb) property in all weather conditions as necessary and to respond to situations in a timely, professional, and appropriate manner as required.
