The Department
Fidelity’s Fixed Income Department is one of the country’s leading fixed income managers, with over $1.2 Trillion in fixed-income assets managed by a staff of more than 200 investment professionals. We combine fundamental research on domestic and international debt issuers with macroeconomic and quantitative analysis to develop investment decisions. Our goal is to use our financial expertise to help people live the lives they want. Our business is primarily located in Merrimack, NH, about 50 miles north of Boston.
The Position
The Municipal Bond Trader will be a member of the Fixed Income trading group and will work very closely with the Municipal Bond and Municipal Money Market teams as well our retail separately managed account team. The Municipal Trader will be responsible for trading and market reconnaissance of municipal bonds, working closely with Portfolio Managers, Analysts and other Traders to help generate returns in that sector.
Main Responsibilities
- Negotiate and execute trades on behalf of our portfolios, achieving best execution for clients
- Source investment opportunities and access liquidity in the marketplace
- Collect, organize, and disseminate relevant market and trading information to the investment team
- Partner with portfolio managers, traders, and analysts to generate investment ideas that will have a positive impact on our investment performance
- Establish and maintain strong dealer relationships (sales, trading, and syndicate)
- Represent the trading desk in periodic team meetings and other ad hoc forums
- Partner with technology, compliance, legal, operations, and other internal groups to provide best-in-class service and execution capabilities to the portfolios
Qualifications
- At least 5 years of experience in Municipal Bond trading
- MBA, CFA or equivalent work experience
- Demonstrated understanding of fixed income mathematics
- Strong analytical ability along with excellent communication skills
- Ability to think creatively and independently while working in a collaborative environment
- Aptitude for using new technologies to enhance our workflow, trading systems, and market surveillance capabilities
- Strong understanding of risk and compliance functions.
