What are the responsibilities and job description for the Principal Site Reliability Engineer position at Fidelity Investments?
As a Principal Site Reliability Engineer, you blend deep cloud services experience and reliability engineering expertise with a passion for delivering results. In an agile structure, this individual will work closely with developers and architects across the firm influencing development of reliable products, standardization of common solutions and patterns, and adoption of resiliency and dependability principles. Your will bring macro level observability, alert notification, and reliability to Fidelity’s complex cloud ecosystem. You are committed to developing your own expertise and knowledge to ensure you bring the latest thinking to your role.
Creating scalable solutions and automation to monitor the health and establish signals to drive understanding of our cloud environments.
Providing effective cloud event management for Cloud provider planned and unplanned events.
Strengthening operational processes with Fidelity support and incident management teams for our cloud ecosystem
Interfacing with Fidelity and cloud service provider product teams and driving ongoing reliability improvements in their service offerings.
Anticipating, discovering through ongoing interaction with, and prioritizing client / partner needs to serve as their voice and guide execution of the team.
The Expertise You Have and The Skills You Bring
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in a technology related field (e.g. Computer Science, Engineering, etc.) required.
Possess at least one cloud certification (AWS or Azure preferred).
7 -10 years of hands-on experience deploying and/or supporting highly distributed multi-tiered systems at scale.
5 years of experience in Cloud development (AWS/Azure) and migration skills; Experience with building and operating highly resilient platforms in cloud environments.
5 years of experience in software development with Python, NodeJS, or Java with a focus on SDLC and automation
Hands-on experience with container orchestration, preferably with Kubernetes
Practical experience in building cloud hosted and native applications for the enterprise. Maintains a deep understanding of a wide variety of AWS/Azure services that support reliability, observability, and automation/orchestration.
Expertise in building and developing observability platforms.
Hands on experience with one or more observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/OpenSearch, OpenTelemetry, Datadog, etc.)
Ability to automate with various scripting languages (Python, Shell scripting, etc.)
Experience managing systems using infrastructure as code tools (IAM, ARM, Terraform, Chef)
Solid understanding of Cloud Computing and DevOps concepts including CI/CD pipelines
Hands-on Kubernetes skills and knowledge.
You work in partnership with the Cloud Provider Enablement Platform team and other SRE teams across enterprise. You will work with development teams across Fidelity to understand their usage and need of cloud services and drive reliable and intelligent adoption and ongoing usage of cloud.
Brings holistic and customer-centric perspectives during new development or re-architecture of products spanning across organizations.
Develops knowledge hubs such as E2E topology diagrams that improve the efficiency of development and operations teams.
Drives adoption of industry and Fidelity SRE practices across diverse applications and platforms.
Manage crisis and drive mitigation during high-severity complex incidents.
