First Coast Terminals provides reliable, world-class stevedoring and cargo services, safely and efficiently, with our customers and our team at the center of our operations and we are looking for a LOLO Gangman to join our team at the Blount Island Terminal in Jacksonville, FL.
In this position you will:
The LOLO Gangman is a general support worker of First Coast Terminals and its customers. He/She will perform duties as dictated by the needs of the operations. The LOLO Gangman is responsible for the overall good housekeeping and cleanliness of all areas of operations. He/She is responsible for the stuffing/stripping of flatracks/containers within safe weight limits for shipping. He/She is responsible for the maintenance and replacement of all emergency gear to include, but not limited to slings, hasp, shackles, gear stowage, lashing straps, chains, and support tools. He/She will operate a pressure waster to clean reefers, assist truckers with locating loads in the yard, and lashing and unlashing cargo for shipment. The LOLO Gangman will ensure that all loose cargo received is made for sea prior to loading on the ship. He/She is responsible for inventory control of all lifting gear used for LOLO Operations.
The LOLO Gangman position is a highly physical environment. Employee will be exposed to all weather elements, extreme heat/cold. Employee will perform tasks that require prolonged standing, stooping, kneeling, and climbing. Employee must be able to run, jump, and withstand physical exertion during peak operating hours. This is a multi-task-oriented position and incumbent must be able to perform well under stressful situations and work with a diverse group of individuals. Must know the yard layout. Must know, understand and work within the safety procedures outlined. He/She will report to a variety of supervisors and be able and willing to complete assigned tasks. The LOLO Gangman will participate in the general housekeeping of the terminal, office areas and warehouse when tasked to do so to include, sweeping, picking up, and transporting trash. This position will be utilized to pre-state all the items required to facilitate a vessel operation, warehouse operation and terminal operation. Must be willing and able to qualify in forklifts, yard hustlers and other support equipment utilized in daily routine.
Main Duties and Responsibilities Include:
- Receive and dispatch loose cargo to make ready for sea
- Stuff/strip flatracks/containers as directed by foreman, pressure wash and clean designated reefers and containers
- Inventory control of all emergency gear, lashing gear, dunnage & pallets used for shipping
- Inventory control of containers, flatracks, flat beds, and other bulk loose cargo
- Overall good housekeeping of yard and loading areas
- Assist in the location and layout of the yard configuration, must be able to follow written plans as well as verbal commands.
The ideal candidate will have:
Qualifications (Education, Experience and Certifications):
- Valid driver's license
- Must be certified and be proficient in the following ground support equipment: Forklift up to 45,000 lbs.
- Must pass annual DOT physical.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Problem solving skills are necessary.
- Ability to work independently, move oversized or awkward loads safely and efficiently.
- Ability to work with complex alpha numeric codes.
- Must have outstanding communication skills and be able to express ideas via radio/telephone devices.
- Must be able and willing to issue orders and follow up on orders.
THIS IS A UNION JOB POSITION. Newly hired employees shall be considered on a trial basis for a period of ninety (90) calendar days from the date of hiring. After the completion of the ninety (90) calendar day trial period, seniority shall be effective as of the original date of employment. All employees who average a minimum of fifteen (15) hours per week or more for sixteen (16) consecutive weeks will become members of the bargaining unit.
