What are the responsibilities and job description for the Drug Testing Technician position at First Step Testing Services?
Job description
First Step Testing is an expanding business and we are eager to add more testing professionals to the team! As our testing technician, you will perform monitored sample collection for individuals assigned to court mandated drug and alcohol testing programs. This position will provide approximately 20 hours per week. Drug/alcohol testing occurs a minimum of 3x a week and other hours would consist of general office duties. Testing days are chosen at random and may include weekdays, weekends, with the potential for some holidays.
Job duties on testing days include:
- Signing clients in and organizing collection of payment.
- Monitor sample collection for the respective sex (male testers observing male clients, female testers observing female clients). The collection device is to be kept in full view of the observer at all times. To remain in ordinance with laws and regulations regarding testing procedures, this matching system is a requirement.
- Interpret results of individual tests, record data in the computer system, and disburse reports as needed to respective parties.
- Must be able to uphold integrity and confidentiality standards set for the industry.
- Required hours for testing days are 7am-10:30am and back for 2:00pm-5:30pm.
Requirements for this position include
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Must be able to pass a drug screening.
- We will run a pre-employment criminal background check.

- Possesses exceptional written and verbal communication skills and is detail oriented.
- Someone passionate in the field of criminal justice, the legal system, and/or recovery would be a plus. We are seeking someone that would like to make this field of work their long term career.
