Description
The Director of Residence Life and Campus Services is a full time, twelve month, live-in professional Residence Life position at Fisk University. The Director is responsible for the administration, developmental experience and day-to-day management of a 150-250 bed on-campus residence hall, responsible for supervising three professional Resident Directors, overseeing student housing and enhancing student life in the residence halls for approximately 700 residential students.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:
1. Oversee housing operations, including room selection processes, room assignments, room changes and summer housing.
2. Supervise professional Resident Directors and manage Residence Education staff (Resident Assistants and Community Assistants) and operations.
3. Advise Residence Hall Association.
4. Coordinate and participate in Residence Education staff rotating on-call coverage - the Head Resident Director will be expected to rotate after-hours emergency coverage, including telephone and on-site consultation when necessary.
5. Collaborate with other Student Life professional staff to advise and support students. Contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
6. Provide leadership in programming, residence education, living-learning programs and staff development.
7. Collaborate with facilities and food vendors to provide a positive experience for students cafeteria and living accommodations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Adjudication of in-hall disciplinary issues, referral of judicial cases to Residence Hall Judicial Board or Tribunal Disciplinary Council, assistance with judicial investigations, and interpretation of rules and regulations to parents and students.
• Completion of administrative duties, participation in university or divisional committees, provision of development opportunities to support the continued growth and job knowledge of student staff.
• Train, evaluate, and supervise 6-10 resident assistants one community assistant, and 8-10 desk attendants; advise hall government and processes judicial cases; responsible for major departmental adjunct area.
• Safety inspections of entire residence hall, including student rooms for repairs, cleanliness and maintenance issues, not limited to fire safety, emergency preparedness, or health concerns. Reporting and monitoring work orders is also included.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS
• Meets regularly with all residence hall personnel to discuss schedules, job duties and other day-to-day operations.
• Communicates on a regular basis with Office of Facilities and Grounds and Campus Safety to provide a safe and healthy living environment.
• Trains, supervises and evaluates Resident Assistants, Desk Attendants, Night Supervisors, and Community Assistant.
• Performs and manages administrative tasks as assigned

Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree required
Experience: The successful candidate must possess knowledge of student development theory; housing management principles, including motivation and performance appraisal; needs assessment and programming; paraprofessional staff training methods; residence life program development; crisis intervention and conflict resolution techniques; and legal issues relevant to student housing. Ability to work in diverse setting required. Knowledge of SIS CAMS/ Ellucian. Successful completion of criminal background check required prior to employment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The employee may regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Normal office conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
