What are the responsibilities and job description for the Undergraduate Student Federal Work Study position at Fitchburg State University?
The Office of Housing & Residential Services is seeking a federal aid recipient for student employment. This position will be funded by federal work study dollars; only students that receive financial aid awards can be considered for this specific role. - Operate via the front desk of Russell Towers as an initial point of contact and resource
- Maintain confidentiality with information provided
- Verify identities of persons entering the residence hall.
- Understand, be able to articulate, and uphold university and Department of Housing and Residential Services policies and procedures
- Address policy violations and be able to write necessary reports using the Maxient system.
- Ensure that students sign in any guests when entering the building.
- Support RA staff during fire alarm activations.
- Conduct regular rounds of the building to ensure policies and procedures are being followed, and to observe and document any concerns or issues in the building.
- Communicate with RA on call staff to report any concerns, issues, or incidents.
- Answer the desk phone and forward any calls as appropriate.
- Have an active role in student maintenance concerns in the buildings. Instruct residents on how to use the Brightly Solutions Asset Essentials system. CDAs will be expected to input work orders brought to their attention.
- Maintain a positive and professional demeanor at all times while working.
- Maintain an organized and efficient working area at all times.
- Attend all training and meetings. There will be mandatory training at the start of each semester. It can be expected that there will be a CDA specific training along with a training for all student staff within the department.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
- Must be able to work well both in a team setting and independently.
- Schedule availability must be flexible.
- CDA shifts will be built based off of your class schedule as it appears in Web4 - time at the start of the semester will allow for permanent swaps/shift pick up to fill the schedule
- Hiring priority given to those who can work both overnight and weekend shifts
- It is expected that all Community Desk Assistants have availability for at least four overnight weekday shifts (shifts that begin at or after 7pm to 7am Sunday nights through to Friday mornings)
- It is expected that all Community Desk Assistants have availability for at least four weekend shifts (Friday/Saturday/Sunday) that run 24 hours a day.
- A shift is anywhere between 2 and 4 hours from 10:30 PM to 7:30 AM during weekdays. ? Ability to multi-task while providing excellent customer service to internal and external constituents.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Full time undergraduate student at Fitchburg State University (enrolled in 12 credits each semester for undergraduates or 9 credit hours per semester for graduates)
- GPA of 2.0 most recently completed semester and cumulatively.
- Be in good conduct standing with the university (no active sanctions). Applicants should be prepared to expound on past conduct history if requested.
- Prior experience living on campus is not required for eligibility.
- Fall 2025 Hires - Training and Opening required times:
- Must be able to come to campus as soon as Monday, August 25th (Will be permitted to move into your on campus living assignment at no charge if living on campus)
- Must be available all day Tuesday, August 26-Saturday, August 30 for training (exact hours TBD)
- Must be available between 7am to 5pm on Sunday, August 31st - Tuesday, September 2nd to support the move-in process for all residential students (exact hours during that time TBD)
Additional Information:
Pay rate: $15.00 per hour.
