Purpose of Position

Troubleshoots, repairs and modifies production electronic components, parts, equipment, and systems in aircraft flight simulators.

Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Performs installation, modification, repair, and conducts proper functionality tests of all associated aircraft panels, instrumentation, lighting and power distribution systems to evaluate system performance. Coordinates with electrical, mechanical and software engineers to insure proper documentation, operation and performance of simulators.
  • Performs all types of work associated with simulator power distribution systems. Assists testing de-energized and energized circuits up to 480VAC. Consists of but not limited to: transformer strapping, phase correction, circuit breakers, voltage monitoring systems, frequency converters, uninterruptible power supplies, wall/maintenance outlets, lighting ballasts, emergency control systems, PLC circuits, Honeywell fire alarm control panels, smoke generator systems, Air conditioning/exhaust fans, Visual systems and various AC to DC converters.
  • Uses a Digital Voltmeter, Ohmmeter, Ammeter, and Oscilloscope, decade box, circuit card tester and other tech lab equipment.
  • Troubleshoots, isolates and repairs or replaces electrical components pertaining to simulators.
  • Removes, bench tests, reinstalls and operates electronic parts and components, ensuring all indications and functions are in accordance with applicable technical specifications.
  • Sets up standard test apparatus or devises test equipment and circuitry to conduct functional, operational, environmental, and life tests to evaluate performance and reliability of prototype or production model.
  • Accesses and interprets system schematics, and electrical and mechanical engineering drawings.
  • Uses specific mathematical skills to find voltage, current and resistance (Ohm's Law); find frequency, compute amplifier gain; and utilize various formulae required for accurate analysis of electronic circuitry at the component level.
  • Analyzes and interprets test data. Adjusts, calibrates, aligns, and modifies circuitry and components and records effects on unit performance.
  • Perform basic Vital X standard operating procedures.
  • Assists with simulator cabling and de-cabling, disassembly, preparation for shipment and on site installations.
  • Accountable for the accuracy and completeness of assigned tasks.
  • Able to adhere to a work schedule including prompt and regular attendance.- Domestic and international travel required.
  • Advanced knowledge/proficiency with TEAL simulator power distribution systems, aircraft/simulated PWM lighting systems, KGS dimmers, PLC installation/programming, UEI Ethernet based data acquisition interfaces and associated I/O layers.
  • Efficiently install, program, test, balance and troubleshoot aircraft/simulated PWM lighting systems consisting of aircraft and/or simulated Avionics, instruments and panels.
  • Proven capabilities in troubleshooting complex aircraft systems for different types of rotary and fixed wing aircraft. Ability to interpret Interface control documents and compare aircraft wiring diagrams and FSI electrical and mechanical schematic.
  • Demonstrates the ability to efficiently troubleshoot, diagnose and correct issues related to all aircraft and miscellaneous simulator systems.
  • Perform Vital X standard operating procedures.
  • Mentor lesser experienced technicians as required.
  • Domestic and international travel required.
Minimum Education

AS in Electronic Technology, avionics or related field

Minimum Experience

Or equivalent Military training 2 Years experience

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

SOFTWARE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • PC Literate: Routinely uses Microsoft Windows based programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet Explorer to perform day-to-day tasks (timesheets, expense reports and e-mail) and to generate various reports. Uses Keytech and AutoCAD to reference electrical and mechanical drawings.
  • Conversant with using Microsoft NT and UNIX based operating systems for initialization, operation and troubleshooting of simulator systems and subsystems. Must have a firm grasp of the concepts involved with troubleshooting microprocessor based systems and performing system level troubleshooting utilizing software programs and utilities.
  • Conversant with DOS/Text based programs used in the programming of EPROM, PLD, and PGA programming utilities.

EQUIPMENT KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Simulator hardware and architecture, including all major systems and subsystems. Thorough knowledge of the operation, architecture, and diagnosis of aircraft avionics systems.
  • Works with a diverse range of electronic test equipment including, but not limited to: Multi-Meter, Oscilloscope, Frequency Counter, Capacitance Meter, Time Domain Reflectometer, IC tester, EPROM reader/burner, Function Generator and AC and DC power supply.
  • Uses technician tools associated with wire wrap, ESD protective equipment, basic circuit card repair, and crimping tools for wires and pins, cables and connectors.
  • Utilization of special tools, such as utilizing laptop computers to interface with, diagnose and/or load software into simulator equipment.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear.The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to risk of electrical shock. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
