ABOUT THE ROLE
Florida Diabetes Camp is hiring a Program Director to lead and expand our statewide camp and community programs. This full-time position is ideal for a compassionate and organized leader who enjoys working with youth and volunteers, thrives in a dynamic environment, and is ready to make a lasting impact.
The Program Director reports to the Executive Director and collaborates closely with Camp Directors, the Medical Director, and administrative staff to deliver high-quality programs that are safe, engaging, and aligned with our mission.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and manage the annual calendar of camp and community programs
- Develop and coordinate single-day camps and events across Florida
- Work with Camp Directors and medical staff to implement safe, fun, and educational programming
- Manage logistics for venues, vendors, supplies, transportation, and housing
- Work with Camp Directors to recruit, onboard, schedule, and support seasonal volunteers
- Lead the camper enrollment process and database management
- Implement ACA accreditation standards and organizational policies
- Develop and implement initiatives to transition former campers into engaged volunteers.
- Track and evaluate program outcomes and develop continuous improvement plans
- Manage program budgets and purchasing within nonprofit accounting systems
- Oversee program documentation, safety records, and incident reporting
- Uphold FDC policies and model high ethical and safety standards
- Travel as needed for camp sessions and events across Florida
- Other duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
- At least 1 year of relevant professional experience (e.g., nonprofit, youth development, education, or volunteer leadership)
- Strong project planning and evaluation skills
- Ability to create training materials, policies, or handbooks
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience supervising staff or volunteers
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace
- Valid Florida driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Availability to work evenings and weekends during seasonal programming
- Ability to pass a Level II background screening
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in recreation, education, or human/social services
- 3 years of experience in youth-serving or nonprofit organizations
- Experience managing volunteer programs or community partnerships
- Familiarity with type 1 diabetes or chronic health conditions in children
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to walk at least 100 yards independently on uneven terrain
- Comfort working outdoors in Florida’s seasonal weather conditions
- Ability to lift and carry items over 20 pounds
- Ability to project vocal communication to large outdoor groups
- Visual acuity sufficient to supervise and monitor youth safety
