What are the responsibilities and job description for the Check Station Operator position at Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation?
Incumbent will be responsible for the operation of deer, hog, and turkey hunting check stations on Chassahowitzka WMA and or on Croom WMA for the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). The check station operator is responsible for opening/closing and manning the check station, checking out hunters, weighing and measuring game, collecting biological samples (including deer heads for chronic wasting disease surveillance), accurately and legibly recording harvest and hunting pressure data, courteously and accurately answering hunter questions, interacting with FWC’s law enforcement officers, and representing the agency in a professional manner while providing service to the public. This job involves strenuous work in extreme weather conditions typical of central Florida and requires the incumbent to be in good physical condition. Candidates should be comfortable talking with hunters and handling harvested game. Candidates must have reliable transportation and the ability to work long hours independently once trained.
