A Respiratory Therapist is a NBRC credentialed professional who provides respiratory care to patients in alternate sites in accordance to AHRE’s policies and procedures. Respiratory care will be preventative, rehabilitative and palliative in nature. The Respiratory Therapist will utilize all of the resources available within the agency and community to accomplish care objectives. 1. Respiratory Therapy Equipment Aptitude: Shows adequate knowledge of respiratory equipment and displays ability to utilize knowledge in the clinical setting. Demonstrates ability to effectively troubleshoot equipment in the field successfully. Aids in equipment evaluation and upgrading. Maintains inventory control of CPAP/BiPAP supplies for sleep center. 2. Professional Growth: Utilizes various sources of information to attain greater competence about his or her position, including attending educational events (including attending optional in-services) and asking questions. Utilizes acquired knowledge to increase his or her competencies. Demonstrates initiative at disseminating knowledge to others. Actively participates in appropriate company committees. Contributes to other employees’ orientations whenever possible. Documents attendance to all educational events. 3. Documentation and Charting: Consistently demonstrates ability to adequately complete all documentation and charting procedures in compliance with JCAHO and company policy and procedures. Maintains complete and accurate patient files by updating all documents per company policy and procedures. Reviews Plan of Treatments and Care Plans to assure they are accurate and up-to-date. Completes paperwork thoroughly. Turns paperwork in to the appropriate bin within 24 hours of completing the patient visit or on the next business day. Turns in all paperwork within 24 hours of set-up completion or the next business day. Documents procedures including how the patient tolerated a procedure, side effects and other pertinent information. Assists with authorization for CPAP/BiPAP referrals for sleep center patients serviced by AHRE. 4. Clinical Skills and Knowledge: Displays knowledge of assessment skills and demonstrates application of clinical skills during set-ups, follow-ups and in-services. Participates in discharge planning of highly technical cases. Performs clinical assessments as needed and reports results and recommendations to the referral source and/or physician. Participates in highly technical discharges and prepares in advance to assure the patient and caregivers have a smooth transition to the home setting. Performs in-services to hospital staff, referrals and other professionals regarding equipment and issues of clinical nature. Follows up with physician and referrals regarding patient status and documents accurately and in a timely manner. 5. Promotion: Creates an environment of positive growth through actively serving on the company Management Team. Works with the Community Education staff to promote AHRE by new program development, operational backup, personal visits, coordination of educational activities, etc. Supports this group with feedback, accompanying referral visits, and coordination with operational components. Works in conjunction with the other company education staff to develop new innovative programs. 6. On-Call Responsibilities: Responds to pages in a timely manner. Responds to on-call problems appropriately. Makes on-call deliveries in a timely manner. Keeps company vehicle appropriately stocked to reduce overtime. Keeps overtime to a minimum by keeping schedule flexible. Routes on-call orders in a timely manner. Routes on-call orders appropriately. Documents all on-call calls in the on-call book. Work Hours This position is classified as exempt. Working hours are as assigned Monday through Sunday and include rotating on-call responsibilities. Working Conditions This position requires in city and rural travel. Moderate to heavy lifting is required 50 - 70 lbs. Qualifications Registered Respiratory Therapist: Graduate of an accredited respiratory therapy program and credentialed as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). A license is required in all states serviced by the region. Plus one year experience as a Health Care RT or HME. One year Health Care RT or HME RT experience required. Certified Respiratory Therapist: Graduate of an accredited respiratory therapy program and credentialed as a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care. A license is required in all states serviced by the region. PlThe employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Must be able to stretch, bend, stoop and crouch and perform moderate to heavy physical labor while moving equipment, materials and supplies. The employee is occasionally required to climb stairs and maneuver heavy equipment through tight spaces to access a patient’s residence. This position requires the physical and mental ability to provide equipment assessments and maintenance. Must be able to lift or transfer patients weighing up to 160 pounds without assistance (or more with assistance) and perform one-man CPR. Drive a personal vehicle, delivery van or truck safely, sometimes through hazardous weather conditions. The employee must be able to identify safety hazards and take the necessary precautions. Work with a minimum of supervision and demonstrate the ability to problem solve. Must be able to communicate effectively with patients and demonstrate courtesy and respect for privacy. Work cooperatively with those contacted in the course of work. Work environment may be stressful at times as work levels fluctuate. The employee may be required to work long hours and drive for long periods of time.
