What are the responsibilities and job description for the Financial Aid Counselor position at Florida Tech?
- Counsels students and families in person, via phone, and virtually, in all aspects of financial aid for all programs available to students at FIT.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of federal, state and institutional guidelines.
- Resolves SAR C-flags and confirms student eligibility when FAFSA confirmations fail.
- Assists in aid eligibility assessment, funds disbursement, and aid reconciliation procedures.
- Reviews and updates awards packages, adjusting aid as necessary to comply with state, federal and institutional guidelines.
- Posts, processes and originates/certifies Direct Stafford, Parent and Graduate PLUS Loans.
- Processes Private loans and ensures receipt of MPNs, Entrance Counseling and certification records.
- Monitors and adjusts student's borrower based aid year information
- Coordinates with Athletics, Resident Life, and other university departments in awarding grants, scholarships, GSA and GRA awards.
- Assists families in the review of cases for special conditions and/or professional judgment.
- Assists with verification for students selected by the Department of Education as well as institutionally selected students.
- Reviews Florida Residency documentation and verifies eligibility for state aid
- Indexes documents received via fax, email and in-person for processing and review.
Requirements include :
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum 0–2 years of relevant work experience required.
Official transcripts of all collegiate work must be sent directly from the attended institution to the Human Resources Office prior to the first day of employment. All international degrees must have a course-by-course official evaluation and translation sent to the Human Resources Office directly from an evaluation company affiliated with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. (NACES).
