What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sr. Mechanical Designer position at Fluidra North America?
Fluidra’s seeking a Sr. Mechanical Designer to join our team at our West Coast office in Carlsbad, CA.
WHAT YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE
The ideal candidate will be a Sr. Mechanical Designer with strong drafting skills utilizing SolidWorks. This position will work within the Engineering Department to create and modify drawings and is primarily responsible for the mechanical design of products within the Product Development team. Most projects will update and modify existing products, with a smaller amount focused on new development. Additionally, you will:
- Creating 2D drawings from 3D models or parts in SolidWorks using common drafting standards.
- Update and modify 2D drawings based on changes required by the engineering team.
- Properly maintain drawing system integrity in the product data management system.
- Work independently to complete drawing project groups with good documentation and organization.
- Coordinate/collaborate with engineers to create new and/or modify existing technical drawings that communicate engineering ideas, designs, and information supporting engineering functions.
- Ability to work effectively independently or in a team environment with complex, difficult projects.
- Strong communication skills – both verbal and written.
- Must generate complex surfaces, detail, and assembly drawings in SolidWorks.
- Verify the information provided is accurately represented, and that all industry-standard drafting standards are met.
- Candidate may have to direct other drafters and engineers on large drawing projects to ensure consistency and cohesiveness.
- Must be a creative problem solver with a history of personal initiative and can work in early-stage, cross-functional teams.
- The successful candidate for this position must have high personal motivation, initiative, intellectual curiosity, and solid communication skills.
- Should be detail-oriented and well-organized. Must be comfortable working in a fast-growth environment.
- Capable of making and checking detail and layout drawings.
- Must have extensive internal customer interface ability.
- Working knowledge of Sheet Metal design to manufacturing experience.
- Perform other duties as assigned
WHAT WE SEEK
- 7 years of working design/drafting experience with consumer-based products concerning injection molded components and sheet metal design.
- 7 years’ experience with drafting standards, including ANSI Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
- Extensive mechanical design and drafting experience with SolidWorks.
- 7 years of drafting experience with the current version of SolidWorks.
- Experience with mechanical design creation of components in SolidWorks for pool equipment, including pumps, filters, valves, pool cleaners, and heaters a plus
EDUCATION
High School Diploma Vocational Training in CAD.

The expected hourly rate range is $38.50 - $59.00 per hour.
