S. R. Smith is seeking a Sustaining Engineer to join the team at the Bulkheads office in Arlington, WA

WHAT YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE
Plans, directs, and coordinates manufacturing processes and supports the engineering function by analyzing designs for manufacturing and assembly. Performs cost estimating, prepares bill of materials and plans and justifies capital equipment. Will also test and evaluate existing products for design and manufacturing improvements. Additionally, you will:
- Develops conceptual and detailed product designs to meet product specifications. Investigates design factors such as function, materials, performance, and cost. Prepares project plans to ensure projects meet cost and schedule goals. Reviews product designs using analytical and investigative methods to ensure product requirements and specifications are met.
- Prepares quoting documentation (CAD drawings and cost quotes) for various custom product lines
- Documents manufacturing processes. Creates and manages manufacturing work instructions.
- Creates 3D models and related 2D CAD drawings for engineering and manufacturing. Reviews and corrects drawings to ensure clarity, completeness, and conformity to standards and procedures.
- Confers with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.
- Analyzes and plans workspace requirements and workflow, designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
- Confers with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
- Confers with suppliers to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards.
- Designs and performs product testing and analysis as needed.
- Performs quality assurance functions as needed to ensure high levels of quality in manufacturing.
- Reviews, writes, and edits reports, assembly and user instructions, including evaluation plans, test results, technical manuals, etc. and provide recommendations conclusions, to engineering staff and customers.
- Utilize ERP system to create part numbers and bills of materials.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
WHAT WE SEEK
- 5 years of engineering work experience.
- Experience on value improvement of consumer products. Knowledge of fiberglass workings is preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), E-mail, and ERP systems.
- Proficient mechanical design skills using CAD software (SolidWorks and AutoDesk)
- Ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven track record of accomplished projects with increasing responsibilities.
- Experience working with engineering and manufacturing teams
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree (B. S.) from four-year college or university in engineering
