Description

Forsyth Country Day School is a community of learners, preparing our students for what’s ahead. Forsyth Country Day School seeks an experienced Assistant Director of Information Technology to join our technology team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the strategic design, security, management, maintenance, and development of FCDS’ Information Technology Systems and Network Infrastructure. This role reports directly to the Director of Information Technology and supervises IT System Support Specialists.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Strategy: Serve as a strategic planner, advisor, decision-maker, and problem solver for the Director of Information Technology. Provide leadership to implement project activities successfully.
  • Systems and Network Management: Set up, configure, and support internal and/or external network and server equipment. Develop, implement, and maintain systems, applications, cybersecurity, network security, and network configurations.
  • Performance and Security: Evaluate systems and network performance issues, plan and execute equipment selection, installation, configuration, and testing. Maintain system and network performance through monitoring, analysis, and performance tuning.
  • Issue Resolution: Troubleshoot network backbone and server performance issues. Create and maintain a disaster recovery plan. Facilitate prompt attention to issues needing the Director of Information Technology’s attention.
  • Project Management: Manage IT projects and coordinate IT project work with other departments to ensure proper, on-time completion within established budgets.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Recommend and implement solutions in collaboration with the Director of Information Technology and technology team members. Represent the IT team at school events and interactions with the FCDS community. Facilitate communication with all stakeholders.
  • Administrative Tasks: Maintain change control log for tracking changes to systems, applications, cybersecurity, network security, and configurations. Assist in negotiation and purchases of selected products and services from vendors. Contribute to IT budget planning.
  • Supervision and Training: Supervise, train, assist, guide, and evaluate IT System Support Specialists. Assign technology staff priorities and activities, and monitor office workflow. Supervise the IT Helpdesk to provide on-site and remote support to faculty, staff, and students.

Essential Duties:

  • Ensure stable and secure Systems and Network Infrastructures to support teaching and learning, faculty and staff, and administrative activities at FCDS.
  • Maintain system and network access, monitoring, control, and evaluation. Perform preventative maintenance and patch management on local and wide area networks, servers, domains, and user files/databases.
  • Design and administer MS Windows Active Directory and Google Workspace for Education.
  • Manage user account administration for all systems and services. Oversee automation of desktop/application rollouts, network backbone and server infrastructure assessments, and database administration.
  • Be on-call for all periods as assigned by the Director of Information Technology.
  • Perform other responsibilities as requested by the Director of Information Technology.

Qualifications


Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (BS) or Associate’s degree with equivalent work experience in a technology-related field such as Computer Science, Management of Information Systems, Software Engineering, or Cyber Security.

  • Experience: 7 years in progressive IT roles with at least 3 years in leadership positions. Extensive knowledge of IT Infrastructure, including network (WAN, LAN, WIFI, VPN, Firewall), servers (Windows), virtualization (Hypervisor), communications (phone, email, video), storage, backup/recovery, disaster recovery, data security, monitoring systems, and all related equipment and systems.

  • Technical Skills: System administration experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge, Raiser’s Edge, SIS, LMS, Tuition Management and Enrollment, Google Workspace, Sophos Network Security Platform/Cybersecurity, Aruba and Ruckus Networks. Proficiency in managing IT infrastructure, including file servers, email systems, internet services, wireless networks, internal web servers, security systems, and VOIP phone systems. Strong knowledge of cybersecurity and disaster recovery practices.

  • Skills and Attributes: Strong leadership, project management, and communication skills. Strategic thinking, problem-solving abilities, and ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders.

Essential Functions:

  • Regularly required to sit or stand for extended periods, walk, stoop, climb and work from a ladder, push, pull, reach, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Must be able to operate a computer, talk, hear, observe, monitor and have the ability to navigate and access a variety of work locations across a large campus. 

  • Must be able to utilize oral and written communication skills effectively.
