Forsyth County Department of Emergency Services is seeking dedicated and passionate first responder heroes to join our team as an EMS Battalion Chief.
EMS Battalion Chief's supervise and coordinate the activities of Emergency Medical Technicians on an assigned shift. The employee has the responsibility for ensuring that equipment is in working condition, that supplies on each vehicle are ample, and that personnel are appropriately qualified. Considerable tact, courtesy, and firmness are required in frequent contact with the general public. Work is performed under general supervision and is evaluated through conferences and overall effectiveness of the services provided to patients and victims of accidents.Ideal candidates must have:
- Considerable knowledge of advanced emergency medical procedures and techniques.
- Considerable knowledge of equipment and supplies used in the emergency care of patients and victims of accidents.
- Considerable knowledge of the geography of the county and the location of roads and streets.
- Working knowledge of emergency medical care services.
- Skill in diagnosing a sick or injured person's condition and applying emergency medical care.
- Ability to supervise and evaluate the work of others.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
- Ability to lift 50-100 lbs occasionally, 25-50 lbs. frequently or up to 10-20 lbs. constantly.- Graduation from high school or GED supplemented by courses in emergency medical care and at least three years experience as an EMT-Paramedic.
- Prefer an associate's degree in emergency medical care and one year supervisory experience.
- Requires certification by the N.C. Department of Human Resources Office of Emergency Medical Services and the N.C. Board of Medical Examiners as an EMT Paramedic.
- Must have a valid N.C. driver's license.
- A higher education level may be considered as a substitution for all or part of the experience requirement.- Supervises and coordinates the activities of emergency medical services units during an assigned.
- Conducts field evaluations and regularly visits medic stations.
- Conducts performance evaluations for shift personnel.
- Makes daily emergency transportation, maintenance, and cleaning assignments as directed.
- Monitors calls for potential problems or hazards and responds to emergency calls requiring supervisor's presence or assistance and if necessary acts as attendant in administering emergency medical care.
- Prepares records and reports of activities including time sheets, electronic scheduler, line-up, audits trip tickets, community service log, and vehicle maintenance.
- Verifies accuracy and approves billing from the hospital reports.
- Makes arrangements with county garage, radio shop, etc. to have any maintenance or repairs completed; takes vehicle to appropriate facility.
- Assists in training of department personnel as requested.
- Talks to civic groups on emergency medical services.
- Cooperates with other agencies that provide help in emergencies.
- Attends supervisor's meetings and participates in discussion of changes in operating procedures and methods.
- Performs related work as required.
- Maintaining a specific license such as a driver's license in good standing, without a lapse or loss of a privilege to drive in compliance with North Carolina law, and in compliance with applicable DOT standards for commercial motor vehicle drivers if required to perform the duties assigned to the position.
