- Coordinates all Civil Service Commission meetings with Sheriff and administrative staff, law enforcement and corrections associations on meeting requests and presentations; Researches agenda items.
- Oversees the Sheriff’s Office employee grievance process; Investigates employee grievances and helps resolve conflicts; Coordinates grievance hearings with Civil Services Commissioners, County Attorney’s office, all involved parties and their attorneys.
- Reviews and ensures that policies and procedures within the Commission are consistent with state and federal policies, laws and regulations and recommends changes as necessary.
- Develops, plans and implements verbal and written promotional exams for positions within the Sheriff’s Office; Researches criminal law, investigative and supervisory text, state jail standards, Sheriff and Civil Service Commission Policies to prepare verbal and written questions for exams; Coordinates and administers promotional testing and interviews.
- Responsible for administrative duties for Civil Service Commission; Maintains and organizes information related to activities and meetings.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration or directly related field.
- 3 years job related experience.
- Strong computer and typing skills; working knowledge of spreadsheet, word processing and database.
- Verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with others.
- Management and supervisory skills.
- Ability to complete assigned tasks within tight deadlines; organizational skills and ability to prioritize own/others’ work.
