Job Summary
Fort Bend Music Center is seeking a skilled and experienced Band Instrument Repair Shop Foreman to oversee daily operations in our repair facility. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience in repairing brass and woodwind instruments, as well as strong leadership and organizational skills. This role is critical in maintaining quality standards, managing workflow, mentoring technicians, and ensuring timely completion of repair work.
Responsibilities
Supervision & Leadership
- Oversee and manage a team of repair technicians.
- Assign repair jobs and manage workflow to ensure timely completion.
- Train and mentor new or junior technicians to improve skill levels and productivity.
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.
Quality Control
- Inspect finished repairs to ensure quality standards are met or exceeded.
- Implement and uphold quality assurance procedures.
Technical Expertise
- Perform complex repairs on woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments.
- Provide technical guidance on unique or challenging repair situations.
- Keep up-to-date with new repair techniques and industry standards.
Shop Operations
- Monitor and maintain inventory of tools, supplies, and parts.
- Coordinate with front office on estimates, customer communication, and work orders.
- Ensure shop cleanliness, safety, and maintenance of repair equipment.
Customer Service
- Interact with customers regarding repairs/service.
- Provide accurate time and cost estimates for advanced repair work.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in band instrument repair.
- Proven experience in a supervisory or team lead role, preferred.
- Certification from an accredited repair program (e.g., Red Wing or Renton Tech) is a plus.
- Advanced proficiency in diagnosing and repairing brass and woodwind instruments; percussion and string experience is a bonus.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to high-quality craftsmanship and customer satisfaction.
- Must have a state-issued driver's license.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Manual dexterity for handling small parts and tools.
- Comfortable standing or sitting for long periods while performing repairs.
