Position Description
POSITION TITLE: ELL Paraprofessional
FLSA: Non-Exempt
REPORTS TO: Building Principal and Supervisor of Special Programs
BEGINNING: August, 2024
LOCATION: Tilles Elementary School and Kimmons Middle School
QUALIFICATIONS
- 60 college credit hours preferred, or passing score on Para-Pro Praxis exam
- Demonstrate the ability to instruct and actively engage EL learners in a manner that accelerates English language proficiency and achievement
- Possess skills in collaboration
- Willing to increase professional knowledge and skills through applicable trainings, possibly occurring during off-contract hours
ROLE
- To assist teachers of EL learners with instructional support.
- To provide instruction and support and monitor progress for EL learners toward English proficiency and academic achievement
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Provide individual or small group instruction to accelerate language proficiency and achievement
- Perform clerical duties which may include filing, collection and recording of data, preparing classroom materials, and entering data into software
- Meet with collaborative teams to assist with progress monitoring and instructional planning for EL students
- Remain current and knowledgeable of general needs and behaviors of students served
- Maintain professional relationships at all times with students, teachers, parents, administrators, and all stakeholders
- Attend training, as deemed necessary by the building principal or Parker Center EL Department
- Use assistive technology devices
- Supervise students in classrooms, cafeteria, playground, hallways, and other locations on the school campus as instructed by the building principal
- Conduct student program assessments and screenings, per instrument administration guidelines
- Maintain confidentiality
- Maintain records and reports consistently and appropriately
- Maintain emotional control under stress
- Lift at least 40 pounds occasionally and endure prolonged standing, walking, sitting, kneeling, bending, squatting, and occasional reaching above the head or shoulders
- Perform other duties as assigned
