FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY (FVSU), a state and land-grant institution of the University System of Georgia, invites applications for the position of Registrar.

Fort Valley State University, the only 1890 land-grant university in Georgia, is a comprehensive institution that provides an education to over 2,800 students including graduate students. The university is located in the town of Fort Valley in Peach County, the original site of the state's peach industry. Its 1,365-acre (5.52 km2) campus is Georgia's second-largest public university in area.

JOB SUMMARY:

  • This position is responsible for supervising operational functions of the Office of the Registrar. The work consists of various registrar management and supervision duties. Strict policies and deadlines contribute to the complexity of the position.
  • The purpose of this position is to maintain and preserve academic integrity and ensure adherence to academic policy. Success in this position helps safeguard the security of academic records and assist our constituents.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervises all administrative and operational functions of the Office of the Registrar including collaborative programs, Veteran Affairs, and NCAA certification.
  • Ensures the integrity, accuracy, and security of all academic records of current and former students.
  • Consults with other officials to devise and facilitate an effective student registration and enrollment process.
  • Provides secure student data files and sets policies and procedures for their responsible usage including processing of grades, academic data collection, National Student Clearinghouse reporting, and FERPA guidelines.
  • Maintains up-to-date academic calendars, course schedules, catalogs, and final examination schedules.
  • Maintains the Banner system and the Degree Works degree audit system.
  • Supervises the processes for articulation of transfer credits, graduation, awarding of degrees, enrollment and degree verification, productions of transcripts, and commencement ceremony.
  • Assists with academic matters; interprets and enforces policies and regulations of the University and the Board of Regents.
  • Serves as chair or co-chair for Registration, Academic Appeals, Academic Calendar, Commencement, Curriculum, Policy Sub-Committee, Athletic, Adult Learning & Veteran Affairs, and RACRA committees.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in a course of study related to the occupational field required.
  • More than three years of related experience required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of student record-keeping policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of local, federal, and state reporting requirements.
  • Skill in maintaining working relationships with staff, faculty, and students.
  • Skill in working with diverse constituencies, individually and as a team.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in organization and attention to detail.
  • Skill in computer operations.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position has direct supervision over Clerical Assistants (4) and VA Certifying Official (1).

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table and intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, or walking.
  • The work is typically performed in an office.
