Position: Mold Maintenance Technician
Reports to: Plant Manager
Scope:
The Mold Maintenance Technician (Mold Tech) is a vital part of the Forté team. He/she is responsible for the repairs and modifications of all tools and fixtures, must require little supervision, and be a self-starter. The Mold Tech must keep track of tooling issues, communicate those issues to the Mold Maintenance Lead and provide notification to Production if a tool will be out of service. The Mold Tech is a highly visible member of the Forté organization and as such must lead by example in the areas of Safety, Quality, Productivity, Attendance, Attitude and Flexibility on the job. Mold Maintenance is a service department whose primary customer is Production.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain a safe working environment
- Consistently lead by example and act as a team player
- Possess knowledge and capability to perform proper mold cleaning and mold/fixture repairs
- Communicate with Production Supervisors, Process Techs, the Mold Maintenance Lead, members of management, and others throughout the organization
- Possess knowledge of and experience working with cast aluminum and fabricated metal molds
- Proper handling and care of tooling: Caution when opening, closing, positioning and staging molds
Correct and appropriate use of machinery (Welders, Mill, Lathe, Saws, etc.)
Safe and proper application of mold release agents (where, when, what type, and how)
Knowledge of materials and methods for cleaning parting lines and tool surfaces, including surfaces with various textures and coatings
Knowledge of and ability to perform metal work, welding, grinding, machining, etc.
Ensuring molds and fixtures are in safe and proper working order (stops, receivers, springs, mounting bolts, parting flanges, venting, clamps, pins, bushings, etc)
- Maintain proper stocking levels of clamps, metal, bolt, vent tubing, etc.
- Maintain an acceptable output of molds/fixtures and keep all in ready-to-run condition.
- Assist General Maintenance Department when needed
- Ability to use and understand metrology tools (micrometer, calipers, tape measure, etc.) as well as to read and understand blueprints, product drawings, machine specifications, etc.
- Ability to understand and follow the Production Planner, work instructions, bills of material (BOMs), product drawings, etc.
- Understand, apply and maintain 5S program procedures
- Ability to accurately log and maintain mold maintenance database.

Equipment Requirements:
- Metal working tools and equipment- Welders, grinders, saws, stamps, torches, etc.
- Hand and power tools- Wrenches, screwdrivers, hammers, files, scrapers, etc.
Drills, routers, saws, etc.
- Measurement tools- Calipers, tape measure, micrometers, gages, etc.
- Forklifts, pallet jacks, hoists, lifts, etc.
Physical Requirements:
- Standing on feet (80%)The employee is required to remain on his or her feet in an upright position for continuous periods of time
- Sitting (< 10%)This is an active, strenuous position with little opportunity for sitting, other than when operating a forklift or entering data into the CMMS database
- Climbing (< 10%)Less than 10% required climbing stairs / steps / ladders
- Walking (75%)Mold Maintenance activities occur throughout the production facility, not just the Mold Maintenance shop area. Tooling is stored throughout the facility, as well as outside.
- Lifting/ Pulling / Pushing / Carrying (75%)
Tooling, fixtures, tools and material can be heavy to move and position. Utilize hoists, jacks and team lifting whenever possible, especially when lifting loads in excess of 50 lbs.Over 150 lbs. – Rarely

- Grasping/ Dexterity (80%)Handling, manipulating, turning of tools, fasteners, components, etc. is a fundamental part of the job
- Stooping / Crouching (60%)Cleaning and wiping tools while on the shop floor or from the machine deck is a frequent part of the job.
- Data Entry / Typing (10%)Record keeping of PM activities, asset data, work orders, etc. in the CMMS database
- Environment- The employee is required to work in temperatures ranging between 35°F to 100°F for the duration of their shift
Teamwork Requirements:
- Must be able to work in a production-oriented environment
- Must be able to perform under pressure, meet deadlines, and maintain professionalism
- Must work as part of a team, yet be able to complete assignments independently
- Must exercise problem-solving skills
Shift Requirements
- Minimum of 40 hours per week, Monday thru Friday. Overtime, including weekends, may be required to meet the needs of the organization. It is expected that the employee will meet overtime requirements as needed.
