What are the responsibilities and job description for the Surgery Aide position at Franciscan Health?

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
- Assembles charts for newly admitted patients and maintains charts daily by checking charts and labeling needed chart forms, as required.
- Assists in clean up of surgical environment after a procedure, ensuring the operating room is cleaned and set up for turnover to the next procedure. Removes equipment from surgery room and follows proper procedure to dispose of contaminated equipment and supplies. Handles and disposes of sharps, biohazardous waste, regular trash, and contaminated linens according to procedures and policies.
- Assists in lifting and/or transferring patients, patient positioning, monitoring control and well-being patients; ensures positioning devices are available in the appropriate rooms for cases.
- Assists in precepting new coworkers and acts as a resource for others, as required.
- Completes deep clean with the use of floor scrubber, as required.
- Notifies patients on next day's schedule of arrival time, NPO status and other pertinent information, as required.
- Obtains and runs a 12-lead EKG, as required.
- Operates and cleans the autoclave; performs daily and weekly biological testing of autoclave units and checks high-level disinfection units; and changes chart paper, as required.
- Performs glucometer testing and QC as directed, as required.
- Prepares for surgical procedures by obtaining appropriate instruments, supplies and equipment and appropriate records for specific surgical procedures; opens surgical supplies/equipment, cleans and prepares instruments for sterilization process and restocks pre-operative carts.
- Transports patients, supplies, specimens, blood and equipment to and from other departments in a clinic or hospital, as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma/ GED- Preferred
- 2 years of Patient Care Experience- Preferred
- Basic Life Support Program (BLS) - American Heart Association- Required
