Description

Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Director of Human Resources and Safety, the Safety Coordinator is responsible for the implementation and maintenance of the safety program. This includes designing and building safety programs and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent injury from occurring.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the implementation and updating of required written safety and health programs and plans. these may include, as needed: Hazard Communication, Forklift Safety, Lock Out Tag Out, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), etc…
  • Ensure that the plant is operating in a safe manner and without accidents.
  • Create and implement safety plans while ensuring that they are being followed daily.
  • Conduct safety observation reports on a regular basis.
  • Attend safety walks and inspections before or during each project to analyze safety risks.
  • Educate employees on safety standards and expectations as well as safe machine/equipment operation.
  • Provide recommendations for improving safety in the workplace.
  • Ensure that all safety training and all other specifically required training is provided for all employees.
  • Coordinate team to investigate incidents that occur onsite and identify root causes of accidents. And fill worker compensation form with proper contractor.
  • Maintain documentation of the company’s safety procedures, accidents, and related events.
  • Act as a liaison between management and external safety agencies, such as fire and insurance personnel.
  • Facilitate safety meetings and share best practices with other facilities.
  • Train and manage Safety Programs.
  • Establish and monitor a program for reporting and investigating “near-miss” situations.
  • Benchmark other facilities for possible improvements in ergonomics, forklift safety, and other safety best practices.
  • Manages Worker’s Comp Claims
  • Ensure that OSHA 300 log of occupational injuries and illnesses is maintained.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Train and certify Forklift, clamp and boom lift operators
  • Safety Committee Chairperson
  • Perform data entry, maintain logs and call records.
  • Manage Worker’s Compensation
  • Manage training data base, develop training videos, Power Point presentations, engaging safety training and facilitate trainings
  • Handle any OSHA visits and prepare response to any violations found during audits and present to HR Director and GM for review.
  • Communicate all near miss, accidents, injuries with Plant Manger and GM and Director of HR.
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills Required:

  • Previous Safety leader experience.
  • Use Radio, phone and computer to provide accurate information
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to create and maintain professional relationships within all levels of the organization (peers, work, groups, customers and supervisors)
  • Ability to adjust priorities.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish- written, and verbal required
  • Intermediate to experert knowledge of Microsoft office applications
  • Identify and provide KPI’s
  • Capable of multi-tasking, highly organized with excellent time management skills.
  • Detail oriented with excellent follow-up practices.

Work Environment:

Employee will be exposed to moderate noise level. Due to the open environment of the warehouse, must be able to work in various weather and temperature conditions to include extreme heat, humidity and cold. High forklift traffic.

    • Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
    • Occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and vibration.
    • Noise level in the work environment is generally loud.
  • Physical Requirements
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Occasionally required to sit.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Qualifications


REQUIRED:

  • Bilingual English Spanish- Written and communication required
  • 3-5 yrs minimum safety experience
