Summary:

 

The 12-month non-teaching special education lead provides direct oversight to all special education.  Additionally, the Special Education Lead will manage Child Find responsibilities for their school and will serve as the point of contact for coordinating transition at the high school level, when applicable.  The Special Education Lead will work collaboratively with general and special education personnel to implement appropriate programming for students with and without disabilities to ensure all learners receive the support they need to excel.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Valid professional license issued by the Virginia Department of Education with an endorsement in special education required. Master’s Degree Preferred.
  • Minimum of five successful years as a special education teacher.

 

Essential Duties

 

Essential duties are interpreted as being descriptive and not restrictive in nature.  Other duties may be assigned.

 

  • Consult with administrators, teachers, related services providers, parents, and other appropriate individuals regarding the special education needs of students.
  • Maintain and manage all special education and Child Find processes and timelines for the assigned building in collaboration with the Special Instructional Services department.
  • Oversee all aspects of the documentation for all students with disabilities as identified through IDEA.
  • Collaborate with the administrators, Department of Special Instructional Services, and Student Support Services through special scenarios or circumstances.
  • Coordinate resources to complete functional behavior assessments and behavior intervention plans.
  • Coordinate and facilitate Child Find (SSRT), triennial, and eligibility processes for assigned building(s).
  • Supervise IEP plan development, reviews and revisions, and delivery of services to ensure FAPE, in collaboration with the department chair or other relevant staff.
  • Review IEP documents and provide written feedback to case managers before the draft being sent home, in collaboration with the department chair or other relevant staff.
  • Oversee and support students' progress through monitoring and evaluating special education programming to ensure fidelity of implementation, data collection, and IEP implementation, in collaboration with the department chair or other relevant staff.
  • Facilitate eligibility, IEP, Child Find, and other pertinent meetings as the Local Education Agency (LEA) designee.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports and other documentation to comply with all relevant federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Coordinate the behavior support team to support the FBA process by collecting data, and collaboratively creating, supporting, implementing, and evaluating behavior intervention plans.
  • Provide professional learning and support for all building-level personnel in the area of special education.
  • Serve as the faculty member responsible for special education transition planning and coordination pursuant to section §22.1.217.3 of the Code of Virginia, (including Project SEARCH)
  • Maintain and protect confidential documents and student scholastic records.
  • Stay current with relevant laws and regulations pertaining to special education.
  • Attend district-level training and professional development pertaining to the position.
  • Other duties as assigned through the immediate supervisor.

 

The salary range is $66,150-$122,603

 

Contract:
Full time / 12 months / 245 days
