    TITLE: PRINCIPAL
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • A valid state certificate to practice as a school principal.
    • At least five years of experience in public school education.
    • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
    REPORTS TO:Superintendent of Schools
    JOB GOAL:
    To supervise the development and implementation of the new International Baccalaureate (IB) Magnet School opening in the 2010-11 school year. To spend the majority of work time providing instructional leadership while articulating the vision of the magnet school program managing the assigned school so as to promote the educational development of each student.

    Performance Responsibilities:
    • Establish and maintain an effective learning climate in the school;
    • Oversee the development and design of a variety of major special projects such as fairs, publications and programs;
    • Supervise the school's instructional process;
    • Provide leadership and promote positive action for the achievement of school district and building objectives;
    • Establish climate for proper student conduct and maintaining student discipline;
    • Support the magnet school methodology and the assessment of student progress;
    • Initiate, design and implement programs to meet specific needs of the school;
    • Establish and maintain favorable relationships with local community groups and individuals to foster understanding and solicit support for overall school objectives and program, to interpret Board policies and administrative directives, and to discuss and resolve individual student problems;
    • Orient newly assigned staff members and assist in their development;
    • Coordinate or supervise such support services as maintenance, security, food services, recreational programs, financial and accounting functions, library activities and the like;
    • Assist in the implementation and supervision of the school's special education programs;
    • Assume leadership in the direction of the school's extra-curricular activities;
    • Evaluate, counsel and provide assistance to all staff members regarding their individual and group performance;
    • Prepare or supervise the preparation of reports, records, and other informational data required or appropriate to the school's administration;
    • Participate in all meetings that are required or appropriate to the position;
    • Prepare and submit the school's budgetary requests, and monitor the expenditure of funds;
    • Attend special events held to recognize student achievement, and attend school sponsored activities, functions and athletic events;
    • Maintain and control the various local funds generated by student activities;
    • Cooperate with college and university officials regarding teacher training and preparation;
    • Work with various members of the central administrative staff on school problems such as transportation, special services, and the like;
    • Conduct staff meetings to keep members informed of policy changes, new programs, and the like;
    • Keep the assistant superintendent and superintendent informed of the school's activities and problems;
    • Maintain a safe environment for students and staff;
    • Keep abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field.
    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year shall be in accordance with the administrative salary programs as approved by the Board.
    EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with procedures for evaluation of administrative personnel.
