Shipping and Receiving Assistant

The objective of the Role

The Shipping and Receiving Assistant ensures the accurate handling of all inbound and outbound shipments while maintaining high documentation standards, product integrity, and organizational efficiency. This role requires strong attention to detail, record-keeping, and proficiency in Excel. It also requires spending time on the dock, working alongside the other team members in all aspects of shipping and receiving. Only about 25% of the time is spent completing administrative tasks. 

Core Competencies for Success 

Technical Skills

• Inventory Management: Verify incoming and outgoing shipments by comparing documentation against physical counts. Identify and document discrepancies or damages.
• Product Integrity: Inspect pallets for damage, confirm sufficient ice levels, check truck and product temperatures, and take corrective actions when needed.
• Documentation: Prepare and complete accurate records, including Bills of Lading, receiving paperwork, and customer packing lists. Proficiency in Excel is essential.

Operational Efficiency

• Cold Storage Management: Conduct daily cooler and freezer checks to ensure timely shipping of product shipments with product relocation or movement as needed.
• Loading & Staging: Verify and stage pallets for cross-docking, ensuring all products are accounted for and meet quality standards.

Equipment Proficiency

• Material Handling Equipment: Operate electric pallet jacks and stand-up forklifts safely and efficiently. (Certification preferred.)

Attention to Detail

• Accuracy: Maintaining meticulous records ensures no product is overlooked or improperly documented.
• Observation: Identify and address potential issues, such as broken pallets, insufficient ice, or compromised product quality.

Team Collaboration

• Communication: Effectively coordinate with colleagues, managers, and other departments to ensure smooth operations.
• Supportive Role: Assist other teams, such as production, in meeting business goals.

Reliability

• Punctuality: Maintain a strong attendance record and arrive on time. DEPENDABILITY is the key to success. 
• Work Ethic: Consistently complete tasks thoroughly and efficiently, including working Sundays on a rotational basis.

Working Environment

• Ability to work in cold and wet environments, such as coolers and freezers.
