Reports to: Rail ManagerGeneral Duties and Responsibilities
- Visually inspect railcars and enter inspection and seal data into the handheld
- Complete a daily visual inspection of the rail tracks; document and report any issues
- Ensure Company inspection, switching, and safety procedures are followed
- Locate cars on packaging schedule and spot them accordingly and in a way that maximizes packaging line production
- Ride train and act as a brake, ground, or switchman as needed
- Maintain frequent daily communication with packaging crew to understand exactly when their next switch will be needed and ensure there is minimal downtime for switching
- Daily cleaning of rail tracks
- Perform daily yard checks
- Visually inspect each outbound car to ensure the release procedures are being followed
- Notify supervisor of any relevant findings or events while on duty
Requirements
- Able to speak, read and write basic English
- Solid communication skills
- Safety- and detail-oriented
- Able to work in a team or independently
- Possess a valid driver’s license
Mission Critical Outcomes
- 3% or less downtime due to rail switching
- Keep work area clean and safe
- ≥98% accuracy on inbound reporting
- 100% of railcars verified empty before release
- No loaded cars released unless they have properly documented billing and seals
- Promptly notify supervisor of any relevant issues (within the same shift issue was identified)
- Develop system that increase efficiency and/or accuracy of switching process by 25%
Breakthrough Outcomes
- 1% or less downtime due to rail switching
- Maintain 100% attendance
- Zero executive involvement
- 100% accuracy on inbound reporting
- 100% of railcars properly spotted
