UNIVERSITY POLICE OFFICER I or II

Frostburg State University Police Department (FSUPD), a progressive and pro-active agency, seeks individuals interested in working in a true Community Policing environment.
University Police Officer I (UPO I):
The University Police Officer I, starts at an annual salary of $50,000. After successfully completing the mandatory police officer training conducted by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission, the UPO I must then successfully complete a one-year probationary period. At that time, the UPO I position promotes to a UPO II.
University Police Officer II (UPO II) – Lateral Transfers:
Applicants who have satisfactorily completed a Maryland Police Training Commission recognized or approved Police Academy Training program and a Police Field Training program and have been certified as a sworn Police Officer recognized by the Maryland Police Training Commission may be appointed at the rank of University Police Officer II. Starting salary for all UPO II lateral transfers will be determined based on years of service.

Responsibilities:
Performs the full range of law enforcement and public safety duties as a sworn police officer. Responsible for patrol, crime prevention, criminal investigation, special event security, and other law enforcement and security duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
UPO I
High school diploma or GED, valid non-commercial Class C or equivalent driver’s license. Employees in this job class are required to achieve and maintain certification as specified by the Maryland Police Training Commission and must meet the minimum standards of appointment for Probationary Police Officer as established by the Maryland Police Training Commission.
UPO II
Certification as a sworn police officer recognized by the Maryland Police Training Commission and a Field Training program. Applicants who have satisfactorily completed a Maryland Police Training Commission recognized or approved Police Academy Training program and a Police Field Training program and have been certified as a sworn Police Officer recognized by the Maryland Police Training Commission may be appointed at the rank of University Police Officer II.
You should be aware before starting the application process that you will automatically be eliminated for any of the following:
A. Ever been convicted of a felony or serious misdemeanor.
B. Ever illegally sold, produced, cultivated, distributed, or transported a controlled dangerous substance, narcotic drug, or marijuana.
C. Illegally used a controlled dangerous substance, narcotic drug, or marijuana for any purpose within the 3 years prior to application.
D. Illegally used a controlled dangerous substance, narcotic drug, or marijuana while employed as a law enforcement officer.
E. Ever used heroin, phencyclidine (PCP), lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), Psilocybin (Mushrooms), Ecstasy and/or synthetic cannabinoids.
F. Ever used any controlled dangerous substance or narcotic drug not already listed above (Ex. Cocaine, or any prescription drug not prescribed to you) that exceeds:
i. A total of five times, or
ii. One time since becoming 21 years old.
