Internal Job Description

 

Position Summary:

 

Designs, develops, modifies and evaluates electronic parts, components or integrated circuitry for electronic equipment, or other hardware systems and/or electrical engineering applications. Determines design approaches and parameters. Analyzes equipment to establish operating data, conducts experimental tests and evaluates results. Selects components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability. May also review vendor capability to support product development.

 

Knowledge:   Having wide-ranging experience, uses professional concepts and company objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways. Some barriers to entry exist at this level (e.g., dept/peer review).

Job complexity:  Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Networks with key contacts outside own area of expertise.

Supervision:  Determines methods and procedures on new assignments and may coordinate activities of other personnel (Team Lead).

Experience:  Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years of related experience with a Master’s degree; or 3 years of related experience with a PhD.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

 

·        Design and development of electrical components and systems interconnections for the purposes of driving industrial inkjet printhead or to facilitate testing of the same in support of manufacturing or product development.  Electrical system design activities could include any/all of the following: electronic circuits & assemblies, system design and planning, system documentation, product or system level testing and support. Specifies wiring, components, test equipment, methods and work flows and creates documentation of individual components/assemblies with overall system block diagrams. Electronic circuitry includes: harnessing, control panels, circuit boards, and power supplies.

·        Completes documentation and release to manufacturing to ensure consistent product assembly, including production of models, drawings, schematics, and bills of material where required.

·        Provides clear and concise documentation of design, assembly and test processes.  Identifies and accepts input from all relevant sources and stakeholders when determining designs and procedures.

·        Seeks out opportunities to improve existing designs from an assembly, product cost or reliability viewpoint.

·        Organizing and cataloguing test result data for future reference, including publication of results in internal technical reports.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:

·        Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and at least 8 years of related experience, or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering and at least 6 years of related experience.

·        Electronic component knowledge including electro-mechanical system level design experience with applications

·        Knowledge of manufacturing requirements including documentation

·        Advanced problem-solving skills utilizing science and engineering education to arrive at practical solutions.

·        Proficiency in CAD systems (for example:  Altium for PCB design; AutoCAD Electrical or SolidWorks Electrical for test system design), and Word, Excel.

·        Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

·        Ability to work individually as well as interact with vendors, customers, engineers and manufacturing.

·        A strong interest and desire to work in a dynamic, priority changing engineering environment.

 

 

DESIRED:

·        System design experience / Familiarity with production methods used to manufacture products

·        Mechanical design or electro-mechanical system design experience

·        Field support experience / Customer interaction

·        Altium (PCB design), and/or AutoCAD Electricalor Solidworks (electrical test system design) experience.

·        Experience with collaborative workflow management software such as Wrike or Jira

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

 

 

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

 

·      Works with electrical voltage and near moving mechanical parts.

·      May have to pick up components that are up to 35 lbs.

·        Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic)

·        Potential travel to customer sites
